I think I checked that when I checked the rest of the intake but I'm not sure so I will definitely check that.

What RPM are you winding it up to? Dont be afraid to take it to 3k! Just a thought since some people don't realize that diesels run healthy and happy right up to the governor.
I dont have the 088 but my 093 doesn't have much boost until 2000rpm and pulls hardest at 2400.

Annother thought-- I had very poor boost with my used setup(5psi max) from the moment I installed it, ended up being SUPER worn out turbo bearings. Once I got a new center housing I could max out the fuel screw and got 12psi consistently.

Ya it has to be run above 2500 rpm to get anywhere near the 6 psi Mark. Good to know though cuz I have been thinking about just putting a center cartridge in it. Did yours have excessive shaft play or hard to turn or anything to show it was worn out?

Mine spun really well actually by hand and had just about zero end play. Spun at idle, etc.
What it did have was crazy side to side play and would actually vibrate off-axis under higher RPMs! Not cool.
I took the intake off and you could see it vibrating just revving the engine in the driveway.
I posted a video on FTE and nobody had ever seen that before...

I live near Justin at R&D Performance and brought him the turbo, he said it had the worst side-to-side play of any he'd ever seen, haha! I was able to buy a CHRA right there on the spot.

Edit: because of the amount of oil that goes through these intakes, when the compressor fins touched the housing, they wore down clean and evenly. Being a turbo noob I couldn't really tell how badly they had touched until I saw the compressor side of both my used one and the new one. Logically, the turbine side was also worn down.

I had the 088 (still have an extra proprietary turbine). Best I could get was 8 maybe 9 up a hill on a cold winter day with the IP maxed out, fresh rebuild on the turbo, and a 60-1 compressor side. I think the turbine on these equates to a 1.15 so you're just never going to see much boost psi and you can't change the turbine. As noted, it's proprietary.

Just for comparison sake, how far is your pump turned up? And in it's current state does the exhaust clean up with the boost? EGTs?

I've totally scrapped that system but before I did it's hard to say because I also scrapped worn injectors/pump. I had my pump turned all the way up. As I recall smoke wasn't the issue, it was egts. The 60-1 backing plate and compressor side was the best upgrade. No machning was required (some keep the stock compressor side and have the backing plate machined to fit a 60-1 wheel).

I now have a of a R&D stage 1 headers/piping and t4 60-1 compressor side with a .63 turbine and intercooler. My pump is a omega moose. I have zero smoke or egt issues.

I timed it to 8 deg advanced.

Never have gotten a non gated kit, especially the 088, to make decent boost levels without timing set in the 6 degree range. Less timing would make more egt, but with that turbo, it will make more boost easier, wich will keep egt in check.

Also, probably wont get to 10+ psi without the pump maxed. If the turbo is working correctly, should be able to clean up all smoke above 2k.

Well I checked the shaft play tonight and it is definitely excessive so it looks like I will be buying a cartridge. Does anyone know if an hx35 cartridge will work with my housings?

Hx35 cartridge will not work, but I know several people have put a complete hx35 on in place of our turbos. I think an he351 would be a much better match from the compressor maps that I have seen.

So what would be the best option for the money? And does anybody know what measurements I need to look at to know if I'm getting the right one?

He351,the turbo will have a identification plate on it that you can look up to determine what it is

You need the housings as well, only your original cartridge will work with the hot and cold side housings without modifications
