Well with the end of the 2018 rally naturally comes discussion of the 2019 Rally. There were some discussions around the campfire about next year, but if you are interested in hosting, start thinking about location, time and rough list of activities.

General rules for hosting are that you typically have had to attended a rally to host. This helps you understand what goes into a successful rally. Campground’s need plenty of full hookup sites and have to be willing to work with you to hold a block of spaces. This is tougher than it sounds.

Those I think are the big things.

Anyway, I didn’t post this to be a place to throw in your bids, just a general announcement to be thinking about things if you are interested in tossing your hat in to host next year. We will solicit bids at a later time but it comes around sooner than you think.

Put on those thinking caps!

If everyone wants, in the near future, (like Aug 1 or 15 or...) I can start a 2019 Rally "throw your hat in the ring" thread. Let that go for a set amount of time. Once everyone has the chance to make their pitch, I will open up a 2019 Rally Location Pole, like we did for 2018, if everyone thinks that worked.

Sounds like a plan Scott. I know we did something similar last year and the time the “toss in” thread was open, really wasn’t enough time to get a solid bid together so I thought I’d pre-game it for folks a bit. Ultimately, decisions have to be made sooner than you think to get things sorted hence the start thinking about it now if you haven’t already.

Good idea to discuss it while everyone still on a positive "high" from the last one! [emoji592][emoji592]

I'm anxious to get this figured out too but haven't got a clue where to start. Seems the bulk of attendees this year were Mid Atlantic and or a little West of Virginia.

Since you guys put it in my backyard this year I expect to travel a good bit next year.

What kind of distances are typically covered when attending? I only drove 110 miles and might have been the closest participant. I could see making a 2 day drive (600-1000 miles) if it came to that. Anyone else okay with that? A 2 day convoy?

Who knows they'll attending next year if within range?

I'd even consider the north east shore of lake Huron Michigan although that's a good haul from here. Or the south shore of Lake Erie in New York. Or even say somewhere on the Ozarks. Northern West Virginia/Southern Ohio.

Is there a place that's "due" a visit by the OB's? I'm kinda new at the Rallye stuffs.

But anyway just trying to get some opinions out there and get some back.

Just some ramblings to give (my) insight on the rally.

Yes, it is very big as a Mid Atlantic group. Back in the day there was a group kind of spearheaded by Mel in south central PA. Brotherhood of Oil Burners (BOOB) that would get together in the area. Mel hosted the very first one and a few others. The acceptance of the web and these boards gave a greater audience so the region grew. The farthest west I have gone is the Lisbon, OH rally. South was the Chattanooga rally. I know Elijah has hosted before, Goose in NJ and Darrin in Michigan.

Sometimes us mid atlantic boys would even do a pre rally shakedown run around Easter. Generally about 4 or 6 of us.

Some things to consider is most guys give up half or more of their vacation to attend. Spending 2 days to arrive and 2 to depart would eat up some days.

Jared (Subway) and I discussed co-hosted in Gatlinburg, TN next year. Would likely be after the 4th (like the last couple). Activities are endless in that area. Will find a weekend without the kiddos to head south east and scout campgrounds. But, we've both hosted before and certainly don't want to step on any want-to-be new host(s).

The big must haves for campgrounds:
Plenty of fullhook up sites.
Cabins for non-camper, but non-tent guys/gals.
Pool.
Playground.
Must be willing to hold a bunch of sites for months at a time.

Tennessee would be great, where ever it is this next year I’m going to be there, just gonna have to make the time. I’d like to bring Jerry towing our avion camper, and then bring the shop truck towing the race truck (which still doesn’t have a build thread)

Looking forward to it already!

I was down for a Tennessee rally last year when it was tossed around as a possibility and I still am. I don't remember who all was in the running last year but I think it was a pretty close call between Heath in Tennessee and Rob in Virginia. Pretty close as in I think it was a tie and Heath seceded but I could be wrong.

I was so glad Rob and Mike won. They were new hosts and I just hosted the 2017 rally. Was happiest loss of my life. LOL

Are we sure that's a good idea after this last rally? :p

Sure was a blast! I think I'll probably have to go to a local one now after how much fun it was just to watch.

yep we put together a preliminary layout of the stuff we can look into doing, and some of the camp grounds to consider. We can post it up, if we start a voting thread to lay out whoever wants to throw a hat in the ring.

i have been down that way before and loved it, if we work winning the title i look forward to vacationing there again!

its funny, my little boy got all excited about going there since Smokey Mountain Knife works is down there, we both like knives. LOL
