I have a 2001 PSD E350 and an 84 E350 in which I first installed a 7.3 IDI NA and recently a 93 7.3 IDI turbo engine.

After I installed the first 7.3 IDI, I figured the two engines are the same size, Ford might have known what they were doing when the put the turbo on the PSD, so I installed a turbo meant for a 7.3 PSD.

It has worked well. It is remote, on the frame at about the rear of the transmission. When I installed the turbo engine I did not change anything related to the turbo.

That turbo has apparently died. The first indication was an oil leak. There is no muffler. I am now getting oil running out of the tail pipe and I hear what sounds like metal-on-metal at the tail pipe.

My stock, E350, 2001 PSD does not have a waste gate. The PSD turbo I had built does not have a waste gate. The 7.3 PSD turbos I find, are listed for a F350 and do have a waste gate.

I do not want a waste gate and it is easy enough to not use the gate on a turbo that comes with one. But are there other issues between E350 and F350 PSD turbos that could cause me concern?

Yep. Van turbos are slightly different.
But you could get a turbo for a 94-97 pickup. No wastegate.
I believe the wheels are different, so you cant just swap housings.
Call up KC turbo. They can get you setup.

The OBS or SD turbos can be interchanged if needed.

If you find a SD turbo with the wastegate just leave the actuator control (rubber line) disconnected, which should be easy because on you IDI there is no control for the wategate anyways.

The IDI and PSD turbos are different because of the compression difference in the engines (IDI is higher)
