So what did you do with your truck today?

Yesterday I hauled my Suburban off to the new owner. Truck reminded me about that sticky caliper I had been neglecting.... Happened a few months ago hauling something on the trailer, after a cool down it was fine and hadn't had an issue since. Since I'm heading out to VA this morning I figured it was a good idea to change it BEFORE I get stranded...

She was due for a change last year when my Passenger side one locked up, but I couldn't swing it. It wasn't leaking but that dust seal was shot and I'm betting it got some rust and gunk in there.

After that was done I spend a while cleaning all my clutter out of the truck and vacuum and armor-all'd the interior. I forgot how nice it looked clean lol!

Got that taken care of and tossed my chrome wheel simulators back on the rear. We're going to finish loading up and should be on the road heading to the rally in about an hour. Crazy excited!

Drove her home the 370+ miles from the rally. I'm so very pleased to say with no issues and no need to stop for fuel either! I have a few more things on my to do list now but I'm very glad that she didn't give me a lick of trouble.

Popped into the Crutchfield store in Harrisonburg before heading home and snagged a pair of new speakers for the front.

I hope to get them and my 6x9s I've had in the garage installed before long.

After installing my WW2 yesterday, I installed an EGT gauge today on my Factory Turbo '93. I'd been putting it off for way too long, just driving 'by feel'.
I had been putting it off because I didn't want to pull the crossover pipe or an exhaust manifold to install it... but also didn't want chips going through the turbo.

Today, I finally did it. I fired the truck up and let it idle. With the engine running(and still cold), I drilled into the crossover pipe right next to the driver's side exhaust manifold(so 2" below the manifold). As the engine was producing exhaust, the pipe was under pressure. All the chips were blown out as I drilled into the side, first with a pilot bit and then with my 1/2" bit.

I then used a steel 1/8 FNPT to 1/4 MNPT adapter that I had, sanded the threads off the 1/4 side and cut it short, and pushed it into the hole, welded it in place as best I can. Might be a couple of spots where there will be a tiny leak, but I think I did pretty decently for doing this under the truck, in place.

Better than nothing. But really the driver side exhaust manifold near the back is the optimal location. There's no problem drilling it and tapping it in the truck if you follow proper procedure. Just make sure you account for the differential, probably one or two hundred degrees at least

Uh... I'm literally 4 inches away from the "optimal" spot. Not going to read low by more than a few degrees. Especially considering my Banks setups had it on the up-pipe, just before the turbo. That should read low by a bit compared to 'optimal'.
Either way, I figure if I keep it under 1100, I'll be conservative no matter what. And I don't think I'll see that without a trailer and a hilll in any case...

Reread your post, didn't realize you managed to get it so close. Just curious why not put it in the manifold itself? I thought that to be the optimal position.

With the manifold, I'd have to drill and tap it. With the pipe, I could drill and weld in a bung. Easier for me to weld than to try to tap it with the engine running - tapping creates chips, welding(the outside shut) does not.
Also, I didn't have pipe taps handy.
