I've used them on Gas and Diesel 2 and 4 cyl. gensets, but never on trucks.

I usually see the Facet 40285 recommended, and I have it on my truck. It's nice to have a visible sediment bowl and screen, too.

What's the part number on this one? PSI and gph? Cost?

I run that in my Jetta tdi without issues. I tried it in my IDI early on, and it was always starving for fuel. It didn't have the flow rate for what the engines need. I upgraded to the duralift e pump, and never had problems.

That gold flo will work in a pinch, like if you need to limp the truck home. But for my IDI, it didn't last very long.

FWIW I recently converted to a Facet 40285 and everything was fine for a while. But, pushing hard up a 10% grade near WOT my fuel filter light would reliably come on. I immediately ordered up a Facet 40223 and now no more fuel filter light. I drive this 10% grade everyday and haven't seen the filter light since switching. I did some more reading here and found a thread comparing the two pumps. One user posted a pic of a fuel pressure reading at the filter head with the 40223 and it was only 5 psi at idle so it seems there is considerable pressure loss between pump outlet and IP inlet(40223 is rated 9-11psi). I keep the 40285 in the truck as a spare to get me home. When I switched from a nearly new mechanical I thought I noticed a slight performance drop but couldn't be sure. Now after running the 40223 I notice a slight performance increase over the 40285. I think the lower pressure from the 40285 retarded the timing just a bit and the 40223 advances it a hair. Not an expert here and mostly I judge perceived gains/losses by how hard I have to hit the throttle on the hills where I live. But since I reach the performance limits of my truck on a near daily basis even slight changes are noticeable.

So in other words I highly recommend the 40223 instead of the 40285.

And just an aside here, but swapping the e-pumps was so easy compared to the mechanical that it was almost worth starting with the wrong pump just to experience how fast and simple the swap is now--20 minutes or less and you're back in business.:Thumbs Up

That's an interesting report. I would be interested as to why that user had such a large pressure drop through the filter head. No way it should be dropping 4-6 psi. Is there excessive flow (return line orifice valve missing or stuck open) so that the pump can't produce full rated pressure? Or was the pump not putting out its rated 9-11 psi to begin with (defective pump, restriction on intake side of pump)? Also wondering what YOUR pressures in your truck are doing...

I haven't tried to drive up any 10% grades (none to be found in southern MO) with the 40285 but my fuel filter light never comes on regardless of the length of time I keep the pedal on the floor. (Yes, it does work). If I ever get through fixing all the things that need fixing on my truck (i.e. never) ;) then I might experiment with fuel pressure gauges someday.

Remember, rated at and runs at are two different things.

Reminds me of when I bought a small diaphragm pump for dispensing fertilizer the rating was clear that it was measured at the pump outlet and that any plumbing after that point would affect the rated output. Maybe the Facet pumps are rated in the same manner.

The pics below show the system I have had in place almost as long as the van has had an IDI. That is a two micron filter that lasted at least a decade. That pump has been there since the 460 was in place.

And no, I have not checked timing as a function of fuel pressure, tho I do have the equipment. But I have driven off with the pump shut off and did not notice any difference.

I had hard start issues for 4 years and finally read about electric pump and put a 40222 on my truck and man did it make a difference!...I would have done it years ago if I had only known!
