So i didnt unbolt the torque converter from the flywheel and bent the outward shaft on the torque converter a degree or two. Anybody reckon i could bang it back with a hamber and save a few hundred bucks? The welds still look good. How much is a new one anyhow? 2nd gear was going out so i figure i was gonna shitcan that tranny and put a new one in.

I'm not sure if it's 'proper', but you might be able to get away with it. I wouldn't use a hammer, though - put it back into the end of the transmission and lever against the "big end", probably using a lever bolted onto it, then see how it spins. Get it to spin without visibly moving in and out and it'll be more than square enough.

Are you putting in a new trans or a junk yard pull and pray?

I'd replace it if it was mine. At 3000 rpm any slight wiggle will turn catastrophic fast.

Depends on what it needs. I would think worst case would be 2k but don't hold me to it. Shop here quoted me 2200 to do my e4 with all updates.

depending on what you're looking for on a rebuild and how much work the shop is doing, a R&R with rebuild is averages out to $1800 for a F250 or F350 4x4. slightly less for 4x2 and much less for bench job. unfortunately, due to people misdiagnosing a trans issue when it turns out to be a transfercase issue, there is no warranty on a bench rebuild trans.

and as far as your bent torque convertor, it's junk now.
the same goes with your flexplate the torque convertor is bolted to.
I completely agree with this. I wouldn't recommend that anyone takes a chance with this. To me, it would be worth WAY more than "a few hundred bucks" just to know that I won't be pulling the transmission back out due to me trying to be a cheap ass. I know it stings the pocket book, but that's how it is.
