I have always used the DIY freon in my truck (since I bought it in 2014) Compressor has always worked. I just replaced resistor (air only blew on high) and fan motor (developed a noise) now compressor does not seem to be kicking in. Before I take it yo mechanic and spend lots of $$ , would it be worth replacing the Compressor Control Relay? Any other ideas? It gets hot when 90+ out and you are driving a couple hours one way to a Horse Show.

Sounds like you've had to recharge it more than once.
Ac isn't something that just gets "topped off."
You have a leak.

I just tried to add and the gauge on the can says it is full. I am afraid to overfill. I know it has a leak, this has been my way of getting around dumping the big $ in it and so far each year it has worked.

assuming you have a can with a "low side psi gauge"

if it is in the "normal zone" try jumping the low or high side pressure switches to see if the compressor will engage.

Also the compressor clutch is know to need a shim adjustment
