I did something similar, where I flew to Alaska to pick up my Blazer, drove back to Colorado. I used USPS ship to fit packages and sent my tools and spare parts up beforehand. You'd be surprised how much stuff you can jam in a box.

Cool, thanks for the input!
Where did you drive back to? Did you buy it with the 4bt?

Most common tools you will need for working on these trucks:

8,10,11,14,16,19mm covers most body bolts

3/8,1/2,9/16,5/8,11/16,3/4” will cover everything on the engine.

If you need to take less than that, I would 8,10,14,1/2,5/8 at the least.

I drove from Homer, Alaska to Grand Junction, Colorado around 4,000 miles. She made it, all the way only to have a valve break a week later. It’s now completely rebuilt and rockin. The Blazer belonged to my brother, who passed away, he had bought it with the Cummins in it from someone in Oregon.

I’m still in Grand Junction, Co so if your near and need a hand I’d be happy to help. Good luck with the truck.

Plus a crescent wrench. They're not the best, but they can be handy in an emergency.

A buddy of mine just bought a 67 Bronco in Chicago and drove it back home to SLC. What he did was, bought a bunch of tools and a floor jack from Harbor Freight in Chicago then when he got home he returned all the tools he hadn't used to the local store. Got all his money back.

We have criss-crossed the country many times, and broken a bunch of things.

I had a hard line crack next to the end at the injector. I wrapped the crack in dental floss, got a propane torch from Walmart, and silver brazing alloy and flux from a welding supply, and made a permanent fix.

I had an alternator fail on the top of I70 in Colorado - 11K feet. I installed my spare which failed three days later.

I installed my spare IP and starter at the end of a dead end road in a state park in W VA the morning after their epic storm which blocked the road out.

We replaced the rear springs in a camp ground just outside Yellowstone - hit a speed bump a bit hard.

I live in So Cal. We are currently in Georgia on the Hot Rod Power Tour. I have:
A hundred pound tool box
Two alternators
Starter
Water pump
Two V belt sets
IP
Injectors
Glow plugs
Hard lines
Injector install kit
Brake pads
Electric supply/lift pump
Trans controller
Two turbo scavenge pumps
Front wheel bearings
Fuel select valve
Vehicle speed sensor
Electric repair kit
110 Volt 1/2 inch electric drill etc
110 Volt impact wrench
Tire puncture repair kit
Engine oil
Trans fluid
Brake fluid
Fuel additive
Fuel filter
Silicone
Duct tape
Two bottle jacks
Floor jack
Tow bar

The van has two batteries for the engine and four for accessories including inverter, and a relay to connect them.

The van weighs about 9K#. And no, I won't leave any of that stuff home.
