If you want to try it with the trans out, just lift up on the back of the engine. It will tilt farther away from the crossmember. Just be careful of the radiator fan and hoses.

sorry, have to dissapoint you (and myself harder!) it doesn't come out. that's just plain stupid! that are things that leave you stranded! I just don't get that.

Another thing; The trans is back under there, and I'm filling her up, according to the manual (just got an extract mailed from a friend) it needs 16.9 Liter. when I arrived at 14 or 15 Liter it started to overflow, and I can't see very well, but it seems to come out of the top of the trans, maybe the ventilation. does that sound familiar to someone?

I just poured in those 14 liters by means of the filler tube. Oh, yes the TC was empty as well

Am I doiing something wrong here? I put the stick in there as well to determine the oil level, and it reads too high, (the crossed area on the dipstick, and it's that same surface too high, (Hope you understand what I try to say here?))

What do I do next?

I always put a quart in the tc before installing it, but you need to start the truck with it in neuteral and fill her up until it’s in the happy zone. It’s gonna take time and small fill increments to get it just right

I started the engine, feet on the brake, and pass all gears with a little time inbetween them, then back to "P", check oil level, then I took a little drive at slow speed, and when I came back had another look at the oil level.
But before I had parked it, I noticed a soft slipping noise, in all gears forward, and in reverse. So I looked at the oil level, and it was overfilled. I tried to get some oil out, but that's not easy if you don't wanna spray oil all over when you undo the carter. so I tried one of the cooler hoses, jee, that's slow!,so I tried the TC drain plug, but that TC was too hot to touch. I let it cool off, and then took about half or 3/4th of a liter out.

I do think though that that soft slipping noise is from the TC clutches, could that be possible? every time I add some oil, ans pass all the gears with ticking over engine, you hear them, with exeption of the P and N gear.

but it sure is difficult to determine the correct level of trans oil on the dipstick!!!

I'm still not sure for the correct level, but Im sure that slipping noise shouldn't be there!

I killed the engine, and left for about half an hour, then I came back and had another look at the trans oil level, without starting the engine, It read about 1 cm above the crosshatched area on the dipstick. I don't know, I got the feeling I'm doiing something wrong here, am I???

Unless you drained the torque converter, the trans body only takes 8 gallons of fluid, you'll have to convert from gallons to Liters.
DO NOT OVERFILL AND RUN IT. IT WILL DESTROY THE TRANS. You more than likely did if fluid ran out the top air bleeder.

Drain some out so it's below the Crosshatch marks, start the truck, let trans warm up to 70-80 degrees, check level when running in Park or Neutral. Add fluid as needed.

Quarts not gallons...

Like oldbull8 said drain some out, be easier to drain from a cooler line. Check the level cold then run it to warm it up and go from there

Running a new torque converter dry doesn’t do it any favors either. You were supposed to dump a quart of atf in there prior to mounting tc onto transmission.
Like already mentioned, removing a trans line might be the best way to drain some fluid from transmission.

ok, This is odd, I can't find any about it in the factory manual, nor youtube or internet, and there are contradicting storeys on the forum. I don't know who to believe.
it wasn't a new TC, only fully drained.

About the cooler lines, I drained from them, but it only released a drip at a time, (with the engine off)

when I start the engine now, and cycle trough all the gears, I hear the TC (maybe the clutches within???) slip. would that slipping sound go away when the oil level is ok?

If you check the fluid engine off. it will read high on the dipstick. Always check the fluid with the engine running. Based on what you have posted, it is a little over filled. Use the cooler line to drain about a quart or two.

The " soft slipping noise" would not be the converter clutch. It is unlocked at slow speeds and reverse. The noise could be anything.

New or used converters do not need to be filled before installation. So you can rule out any problems with this.

By saying that you should use your cooler lines to drain some fluid, everyone is saying to do it with the engine running. Remember that the fluid is being pumped through the cooler while the engine's running. I wouldn't recommend trying this by yourself. You could end up with a BIG mess in a hurry. I would use some rubber fuel line and put some on the cooler fitting and some on the steel transmission line. Then run both pieces of hose into a container that's big enough to hold more than you're going to drain out. I don't know which line goes into the cooler or which one comes out. Which line you use doesn't really matter using my method.

So, I got the trans installed, filled to it's correct level, and tried out, foot on the brake, slowly passing trough all speeds, and then back.as described in post 49
It still makes such a dragging sound, have a look,
xc_hide_links_from_guests_guests_error_hide_media
I know this sound is not correct, but from what malfunction it originates???? I have no Idea.
if any of you could tell me more? please?
