Hi all,
First post - but long time lurker here. I have an 86 F350 flatbed with a well-worn 6.9 idi.

I recently installed a rebuilt Stanadyne pump from Diesel Care and Performance, along with reman injectors and return lines from Accurate Diesel. Also installed an electric fuel pump some time ago to eliminate the lift pump.

Glow plugs are Motorcraft/Beru and in good working order, albeit operated via switch to the relay.

The pump did not have static timing marks scribed, so I installed it straight up and down. I did not remove the timing gear or cover.

The truck starts and idles much better than it used to and shows no signs of the previous symptoms (stall and no-start until IP cooled off), but there's definitely more white smoke on startup. The smoke persists while idling, then is hazy under load. Before the new pump, I had a dark haze under heavy load and no smoke at idle.

I have been unsuccessful in finding a shop to time this pump -- the one shop I found in Monroe is understandably hesitant to time an "internet rebuilt" pump. Any suggestions in the Seattle area? I looked through the timing service thread, but didn't see any locals.

Search diesel care and performance in the "hall of shame."
Injectors could be leaking down.

I'll check it out. I should have finished my thought - the injectors and return lines are from Accurate Diesel. Knock on wood, the startup and idle are much better than before and the truck doesn't stall - so I'm making some kind of progress.. I better start reading up on Accurate Diesel too.

Advance your pump a dimes width from static marks towards the passenger side before you start blaming the new parts, regardless of their origin. White smoke usually means retarded timing. Check out the timing registry to see if there’s anyone near you with timing equipment

What's sad is you are really close to R&D IDI Performance who would have sold you an IP, and have the equipment to time it too...

Welcome to the forum. Sorry you purchased ANYTHING from careless diesel. No matter your issues with your pump from them they will tell you its your fault it wont work because of the way you installed it. Many great members here have been screwed over by them AFTER they installed a faulty pump from them. But this is past now. you got what you have so lets try to make it work. Timing is very important. Nobody can time by ear like so many claim they can so be aware of this going in. Justin at RDI would be the one to see bout timing. Our typ4 aka Russ down in Oregon. Contact them both.

Just following up here... nudged the pump a hair toward pax side and there is only a light haze under load now. Looks good. Glad to have it back on the road. I'll stay away from DCP in the future. Still hoping to find someone in the area with appropriate timing equipment, but at least I know I'm in the neighborhood.

I've got the tools. If you can make it to Spanaway, I could help you out with timing.(Spanawy is down south going towards Mt Rainier)
