I would worry about it. These engines have roller cams, so there’s not a lot of wear between the two components.
I'll second this one. I've never seen one quite like this, but that doesn't really say a whole lot since the ones I used to change out were being used and not sitting to let the valley pan rust through. I'd be more worried about what the crank and rods looks like. Also the lifters since the water came in through the top of the engine.

Doesn't look bad at all. If you really want you could use a very fine (400 grit) emery cloth and lightly buff the edges that catch your finger nail.

It looks to me like it has already had emery cloth ran over it. It appears to have verticle buff marks on the cam lobes. Or maybe I'm seeing oil streaks from being wiped off?

Said he hit it with some scotch bright but those won't take the edges down smooth like true emery cloth will.

Right on that one. Use the emery cloth for sure. That should smooth the rough spots up.

Yes I only hit it with scotch brite soaked in WD-40.
Crank, rods, pistons, and cylinders are excellent.
Not even a ring ridge. Can still see the cross-hatch marks in the cylinders.
Will replace/rebuild the injectors and put in new rings and bearings.
Along with head studs, and a balance job.
Haven't cleaned the lifters yet.
If y'all suggest replacing the cam lead me in the right direction.
Plan for this truck is not a daily driver.
Only for towing old cars, tractors, etc.
I have dragged 2 old cars 1000 miles from South Dakota in the past few years I want to be able to do this if the need arises.
Thanks guys for your input.

I’d run it, especially with the reassurance the other guys gave. After market cam opens up a serious can of worms, and if you’re not going for big power I’m not convinced it’s worth it.

Yummy!!!!

I'm with Wes.. if your not looking to make a hot rod but a good reliable tower I'd stay with it. May throw a turbo on just for a little more pep.

Oh yeah, got a lot of scrubbing to do.
I'll take it to the machine shop next week to get it balanced.

Thanks guys for your input, I really appreciate it.
