Wow I'll have to look into that. The generic 15w40 at the farm stores is $30/5gal!
Which puts it similarly priced - It's about $65/5 gal at my local North 40(farm store); which puts it at around $30/5-gal after rebates.

Here's the metal readings (PPM) from my last UOA with 5700 miles on the oil.
  • Iron 13
  • Chrome 0
  • Nickel 0
  • Aluminum 7
  • Copper 0
  • Lead 14
  • Tin 0
  • Silicon 3
  • Sodium 0
  • Potassium 0
I like the lowest cost test from OAITesting (Amsoil) which is done at Polaris labs, and I've also used Balckstone. It's nice to get a reading every so often for a trend, but it's also very useful if some element is way out of the normal range -- indicating some type of failure as opposed to just a little higher wear. All engines and usage are a bit different, so no need to obsess over a few PPM.

The miles on the oil are generally proportional to the wear metals. Changing the oil at 3000 miles should have about half the wear metal as at 5000 miles. Adding oil dilutes the oil contaminants, and the PPM's will read less than compared with not adding oil.

Hope this works.

Shows fuel dilution at 7%. Ive changed injectors and fuel pump since then. I only have 3000 on the oil now. I'll wait a bit before I take another sample
