I guess I'd better quit procrastinating... I'm off to town to find the hub socket.

Well my Father in law's little yapper was here this morning lol!

The $%$#%#$#@ people that worked on the truck before I bought it didn't properly tighten the lug nuts so I've been meaning to replace the bad studs anyway. Two of my lug nuts are 7/8 wrench size instead of 1-1/16 like ALL the other ones, so I ordered everything today. I caved in and bought the 5pc lock nut socket set so I'll have them on hand anyway.

I have almost everything I need. 7 of the 8 studs were out of stock so I won't have them until tomorrow morning. Still gives me enough stuff to tear into it and start the job. Don't need the studs until I have the hub off anyway. Might as well get everything else done and that way I'll know what I broke and need to replace before I go back to town lol!

Just as an FYI, if you aren’t replacing the bearings, be ready to catch them when you remove the hub, a clean catch tub works if you don’t have a spare set of hands.

Thanks Wes, I need to reuse them so I'm hoping they're alright. The inner should be held by the seal right? All I should have to worry about is the outer?

I'm thinking I'd better replace the passenger side parking brake cable too while I'm in there, seeing as how the drivers side one locked up on me a few months ago... Oh isn't it fun the list you get "while you're in there"....

Typically the seal will stay, but if it’s really worn out it possible it will fall out too, better to be ready for it and have it not happen.

Is it preferred to oil the bearings or pack them with grease on assembly?

I just put gear oil in there. Then I'll do the ole jack up one side at a time while filling and checking the level.
But some will recommend packing them.
Otoh, it has been said the grease to pack them won't mix with the gear oil.

Well I packed them anyway. I'd rather KNOW there's something in there. I've seen both recommended myself.
