Im posting this here as im not sure if I can get the same knowledge in the bio alternative fuel section.

Im wondering if WMO is processed through single shot's better or worse than split shot? I have 4-6 original injectors @ 305k miles. Lets just say im due for a set. I would think that single's would processes thinker oil better but im not sure so im asking our awesome knowledge base here.

I do have an early 99 with AB's so im thinking about replacing mine with 180cc single on a stock 7 hole nozzle.

honestly if you want to play around with WMO then get an idi, much more tolerant to "alternative fuels" and when the injectors are ruined your only out a couple hundred dollars for a new set.

On a PSD, single shot vs splits isn't going to make a difference when running WMO, which I would advise against

If you get the WMO clean, meaning really, really, really, clean with a centrifuge clean; and you get the viscosity right by blending with the right amount of RUG it shouldn't make much difference what injector you use, but you will still need to use a severe duty maintenance schedule because of the particulates in your fuel (oil changes every 3,000 miles or less) . Once you put all the labor in cleaning the wmo and blending it, $2.70 a gallon for #2 at the pump doesn't seem too bad. Waste vegetable oil is easy to get these days (Trump has killed the bio-diesel industry, plus oil prices are down) and making bio-diesel from veg oil is about the same amount of work as blending waste motor oil and your engine will love it, it actually cleans your engine as you drive, and your exhaust smells like Burger King!

I couldn't tell you how many gallons of oil I burnt in my old Idi's. I can tell you that after 6k miles of driving my powerstroke that the 255k mile original injectors are shot and I doubt that the oil helped any.

As Greenskeeper said, i didn't care if a $300 injection pump or an injector acted up in it or if it ruined a $500 engine. I do care about $1500 injectors and an expensive replacement 7.3.

Biggest thing is get a hydrometer. I ran 1000’s of gallons through my idi and ran into smoking issues with the powerstroke until I bought a hydrometer.

What specific gravity range was working for you? what did you blend to achieve it?

MTkirk yes I have a hydrometer and am already running wmo with a gravity of 0.86 on the heavy end to 0.83 on the light end. I actually ran my 6.0L on wmo for 2 years lost a turbo (normal ware) and the metal that put in my oil gave me wicked stiction. While I do agree that IDI's are far more friendly for burning PSD power is awesome. Plus I get good cost on motorcraft parts as I work at a ford stealership.

I posed this question just out of curiosity on there functionality with wmo.

I also have the sidwinded_idi theory filter blend filter till that's all.

I actually threw magnets in my processing tank. But once I cut the oil with gas it gets centrifuged over and over until I’m satisfied then it goes straight into the truck. If you look up my last posts I have injector pics of my idi and my ip everything was spotless. I’ve had zero issues in the powerstroke except the smoking when I first started( hurried mix and no hydrometer)

Only reason I changed injectors is because my ip was wore out long before I bought the truck. The wmo actually limped the wore out pump along and really helped it

What type of hyrometer do you guys have? I tried looking them up a long time ago and came up with lots of medical type stuff.

The PSD will defiantly let you know when the fuel is too thick which is why I have been shying away from burning it. If I can get a more consistent viscosity I'd be more inclined to go back to WMO since I still have 4-500 gallons left to use up

Yes and no It will just thin out your oil but thicken your D2 so you will still need e-free rug.... At least in the cold and cold ish times of year. Any time your oil gets thick rug is needed.
