I just bought a 7..3 out of a commercial truck. Unsure of the last time it ran bt i had great compression and everything was there. I have tried to get it to start on the stand. I have powered the fuel solenoid and gave it fresh fuel. Do i have to also power the glow plugs just to hear is start, and if so those it automatically control them or do i need to power them on and off. I don't have power going to the coolant sensor to power the high idle(which isn't there) or the pump advance. Is that a problem? I'm dropping it into a f250 super duty and i have noticed that it doesnt have the options for tach or the tps but i do have a parts 6.9 with both. Will they cross over?

as long as you have power to the FSS (looking at the motor from the front, it's the terminal closest to you on the right of the pump), crack open the line nuts at the injector to bleed out the air, you should be gtg.

You aren't going to get it started without a starting aid - either glow plugs or ether.
For the glow plugs, you need power to the heavy wire going to the glow plugs, and then comnect power to the small terminal on the glow plug controller, the one with a red wire(NOT the one with the white wire).
The controller should cycle as normal as soon as it gets power to the small terminal.

Alternately, ether. Be careful, don't start out with a lot of it, and if you get 'ether lock', you used too much.

Power up the fss bleed the lines and svvery light shot of ether while you are cranking it over and it should take right off. Not a fan of ether but it's a lot easier than trying to wire everything up.

Thank you guys for all the great info. Haven't tried glow plugs yet but engine did pop and try to run on ether.noticed that both the lower pump bolts were loose like someone was trying to adjust timing. and looks like some lines are dripping. Will try to bleed and try again.

now on another note, my truck that its going into is a 200 F250 sd with a 5.4. The 7.3 did not come with a flexplate or the bellhousing adapter so i stole them off a 6.9 i had laying around. I noticed it only has 4 holes for the torque converter, where as the powerstrokes have 6. i'm also not sure if i have a e4od or a 4r100. It is 4x4. Will a powerstroke flexplate work on an idi and does it matter what trans i have for the torque converter. I want to retain the auto trans and use a quick 2 trans controller but i also noticed that the factory pump my 7.3 does not have the nub for the tps. so now what.

2000 SD 5.4 will have a modular 4R100. This will not work with a diesel.
You will have to source a diesel version of the 4R100.

been trying to get her to start but it seems like it wasnt spinning over fast enough. It would struggle to get past the compression stroke after a couple revs with 2 850 cca batteries. Then the starter stopped engaging the flex plate. looks like the first thing im buying is a starter. So in leaning towards the 3.6kw instead of the 2.5kw. right?

That 7.3 out of a Commercial truck probably had a C6 trans hooked to it or a Manual. Putting a Diesel in a Gasser truck is a whole ball of wax. Your gonna need a diesel harness or do a lot of wiring. The reason you don't have a TPS is because the C6 had a VRV on the IP, even if you put a TPS on the IP, what are you going to hook it up too ?
