I’m guessing the drive gear (first pic) is the problem. I had a a tough time getting the thing installed the last time so I probably messed up the gears. I’m running the wine (maroon) gear with the yellow drive gear. It is spot on via GPs. At least it was until the first cable snapped. It’s been all down hill since.

On the bright side, the GP kill has been nice today. Not having to wait and listen to the belt squeal to recharge the batteries after a full GP burn every start is nice.

Well, not so much. I’m beginning to think it’s the gear in the trans and not the cable. Drove it this morning and had no speedo at all until I got almost to work. This thing is really irritating me.

Chased the same issues a few years back in the dually and finally determined the speedo module in the cluster was the culprit.

Hmmm.

I’ve got another cluster. Wonder if it’s worth swapping them to see? I kinda doubt it is. The problem started after fighting the trans back in after my unscheduled engine swap.

Did your odometer quit working when the speedo module was messed up? I’m really saving on the miles that’s for sure. Drove all day and only put about 10 miles on it.

LOL

Mostly leak hunting this afternoon. I removed my fuel pump blockoff plate and installed a new gasket, added a hold down with J-bolts to each Group 31 battery, tightened the top radiator hose clamp that had leaked a bit into a pocket of the intake, and found and corrected the very wide and improper range of bolt torques on my leaky right-side valve cover.

The 7.3 is now leaking less than usual but still needs a freeze plug (naturally it's the one behind the oil filter mount, which is probably why a previous owner didn't have it replaced along with the other leaking one). :frustrate

All most done with the long list of repairs. New tranny cooler lines in and plumbed, new Banks upper dipstick tube in and secured, tranny and t-case filled. Just need to button up a few things and run the **** out of her to shake out any problems.

Just out of curiosity I tried starting the old girl. This thing amazes me. Been sitting for 6 months.... 10 seconds on the glow plugs, witch only a few work, and literally 2 second of cranking and she took off... Smokey as all get out, but the turbo isn't fully hooked up, and kinda rough idle but it was still cold. Non the less it fired right up. Love these old work horses!!!!!

I've thought about that myself. Was it as easy as I'd think it should be? Should bolt right on after drilling a couple holes right? Obviously I'd want a backing plate behind the thin sheet metal. Bronco had the same body lines...

$160? That's just scrap value (about a ton of engine). Wish I could find a turbo setup for that price :D

Didn't feel like getting greasy today, so I cleaned the windows of the pickup inside and out with adhesive remover/paper towels or vinegar and water/ newspaper ad lib. I think at one point it had more than one layer of tint, and several decals too.

I should have been figuring out if there's any adjustment left in the sloppy steering box, but Ford put that screw & locking nut in the most inaccessible corner of the engine compartment that they could find. There's a reason that I prefer working on inline-6's! ;)
