Installed factory turbo valve cover to today to replace ol'drippy valve cover with half assed CD-R breather set up I had put together. Maybe it will actually pull the vapors out now and with a baffle in it it may not eat so much oil through the intake, oddly after changing my oil and adding a powerstroke filter I accidently added a extra quart on top on the extra quart and that was okay it leaks oil anyway, it did leak some extra for one day now it's oil leaks seem to have slowed extremly and it's not leaking the extra oil out now??

Had one of "those days" with the truck today...

Drove it to top off the fuel since I run out between 1/2 and 1/4 tank. Got some surging headed to town. I figured it was air in the lines somehow. I had just over 1/2 tank when I shut the truck off.

Got it filled up, started it and got on the road when it died. Coasted it into a parking lot, let the e-pump run and purged the filter at the schraeder valve. Fired right up and with a little odd clattering noises it cleared up and smoothed out.

Got our shopping done, got home, went to unlock the rear door and the lock came right out of the door....

I love this truck but it's really starting to drive me nuts! Not only is my lock broken, I'm pretty sure my fuel gauge isn't reading right either......
Sounds about like my day, at least your Monday will probably feel great in comparison!

Today I drove it to the muffler shop in the rain to have the Y-pipe fixed (the passeng!er side flare had rusted right off, creating an audible leak). But the injector return leaks have gotten so bad that it was dripping diesel from the valley... right onto the area needing cutting & welding!-Flame Thr
He wisely refused to go near it with a torch or MIG until the leak was fixed.

The #111 Viton O-rings from McMaster arrived this afternoon so I drove it to the mechanic and left it there. Original appointment was for 9 AM tomorrow (naturally he doesn't want to work on a hot engine. I suspect it's more because this is a call-back for something I told him I wanted done in the first place). I'm beginning to think this truck is cursed :frustrate

Got my truck back. They installed the softer Viton O-rings I provided, said they ran it for half an hour and drove about 10 miles and it's still dry. No additional charge. I will look myself tomorrow but there are no more drips of diesel onto the Y-pipe or the ground from the back of the engine.
:Thumbs Up
Rescheduled my exhaust work for Thurs. morning now that he can use a torch and MIG without setting everything on fire!

We literally broke a temp record up here. I'm not sure exactly how warm but around 70 degrees. Previous record was like 62 or something.

I took advantage of the weather and crawled under my F350 and greased everything. As I was doing so I got a nice squirt of WATER from the drivers tie rod end... Glad I greased them now instead of waiting.

Scraped the ice (from last night's freezing rain) off the windows, and drove to the muffler shop again. He cut the end of the Y-pipe off, made a new piece with the proper flared end, and welded it on. Also welded a crack at the Y. $31 later I was back on the road. It's a lot quieter now!

Still can't really enjoy the stereo though, because the road and engine noise change so dramatically between stopped/off, stopped/idle, 35 mph or 60 mph that the subwoofer and bass settings correct for one are way off for the other. Oh well, the IDI is music anyway ;)

If it'd ever stop raining here (all week so far, 2 more days to go) I could put the new cowl seal on and change the diff lubes. Plan to drill and install a drain plug for the front diff, too.

Edit: It stopped raining for a couple of hours so I had a chance to install the new cowl seal. There wasn't any water atop the air cleaner even with the old disintegrated and half-missing seal, though.

Aired up a flat front left tire and drove it into town, first time in at least a month she's run.
Went to NAPA and got an air filter.

Today I changed out the ignition switch on my truck. Now I have the accessories position working and the random starter before glow plugs issue should go away.
I can see why the old was having issues.

I saw one actually come all the way apart. Lol
A couple well placed zip ties worked, after putting the contacts back in their places. Lol

Changed the rear diff lube. Very black, but no metal shavings or debris. I think it's been done once before since the silicone job was too sloppy to be factory. Anyway I cleaned all the RTV off the bolts with a wire wheel, and gently scraped it off the cover and the housing surfaces. Then I put a Felpro gasket on the cover with Permatex Aviation Sealant #3, cleaned out the housing as best I could, bolted the cover back on and squeezed in 3.5 qts of 75W-140 synthetic.
Also tried to adjust the rear brakes so the parking brake would have less travel and more effect, but even though it was just starting to kiss the drum as I spun the wheel, it feels the same. May have to pull the drums and see what the previous "Missouri-engineer" did in there.

May need to adjust it up in the middle. The adjuster is on the drivers side outside the frame rail.

A cheap but effective cleaning trick for cleaning the diff while cover is off, fill an old windex or other spray bottle with gas. Hose everything down and allowing plenty of time for everything to drip into your drain pan directly under the housing. When cover is replaced and new lube added, raise both tires off the ground and turn tire by hand to distribute new lube prior to driving.
