Just bought an old ambulance to convert to a camper:
Hey all, we live in Alaska and bought this van to convert to a camper. The plan for this rig is to store it down in the south west so we can escape the snow for a few months out of the year.
The van sat unused for approx 9 years and we're bringing it back from the depths. Most of the systems are in decent shape, but it is in need of some fine tuning.
She's a 91 7.3 n/a IDI. Starts and runs great(after glowplugs, batts, fuel filter, fuel line kit) she's got a little valve tick, and we're working through the 'ol code 62 on the e4od (trans rebuild this week) power steering leak, trans cooler leak, valve cover leak.
Thanks for all the great info, as I've been on this forum continuously for the last month, just getting around to saying HI.
Next projects will be valve train inspection, and making sure the fuel injection is up to *****( 13mpg as of now).
Anywhoo, we'll be looking for places to work on the rig as we go. So any ford friendly driveways would he much appreciated. We'll we doing the trans swap this week at a pay to play rental garage and would love to get away from that. Also we may need places to ship parts, pieces, bits,n,bobs.
We are currently in Phoenix,AZ but will be in the mountains climbing or hiking for the weekend until our trans rebuild is complete.
Any tips, tricks, and local advice are greatly appreciated!
Thanks,
Steve and Teal
