ive ran the Typ4 and the R&D cam.
doing a cam swap is certainly one way to increase the power.
and anyone whose done cams know that it does make a difference in the ass dyno.

for the most part, they are easy to install.
the problem people have with them is mathematical
these engines, you need to stack all of your numbers, make sure itll work, assemble it, and then clay the piston to valve clearance.

degreeing the cam can be done, but there not like gassers, with available offset cam gears.

R&D's cam actually requires to offset it a tooth.

springs are also a must when doing a cam swap, just like gassers.
you cant expect to take a stock engine with stock springs, and just replace the cam...

usually when I do cams, I have the pistons cut.
this not only gives you more breathing room, but it also decreases compression to allow you to use your boost more efficiently.

bottom line, a cammed IDI is awesome.
and anyone that wants one should plan on building an engine, and know how to do it.

as far as comparing the only 2 cams for these engines, I will not.
as I never towed with either.

I will be contacting Russ soon for his unit. I have done a lot of reading on several sites. I am building two trucks and want it in each one. They will be mostly work horses and I want to maintain reliability. both will have turbos, head studs and crank. I havent decided if I should spend on coating pistons. Most say not needed unless your looking for very high hp.

i know there was a dyno with the two upgraded cams but any to compare a stock cam?

i had the banks kit and a cam in my truck at one point and it had ok power. the bigger turbo i have now and the stock cam is far better in my opinion.

The comparison dyno test is here. This is a bit old, so I have no idea how factual it is still today. I'll let the people who make the cams speak to it, but it is a starting point.
