Oil pressure suddenly reads higher, concerning?

I have a 94 7.3IDI F250. My oil pressure has pretty much always read right at the "N" or slightly below the "N" on the "Normal" on the gauge. While driving on the highway, it suddenly bounces up to between "R" and "M" and has since read in that area. Should I be concerned about this?>

That gauge is meaningless. Get a real gauge. My factory gauge waves around crazily and shows low enough pressure to trigger the engine light at full operating temp, at idle. The mechanical gauge shows a proper reading for that condition.

Get a good aftermarket gauge and use it to watch your pressure. The factory gauges are nothing but idiot lights. My gauge bounces all over but I have a mechanical gauge, that's what I prefer, and it stays at 40 psi driving and 20ish idling after the motor is warmed.

Fluctuations in that gauge are electrical, not mechanical. In a 94, that is just an idiot light with a needle attached..... when the oil pressure switch sees 7psi, it is supposed to move the needle to the middle of the normal range. Basically, if the needle moves, you have 7psi of oil pressure. If it seems to move with the throttle, it's electrical, not pressure. The needle moving with pressure was only on the bullnose trucks....

With your other electrical issues, I'd say that's why your needle isn't where you expect it to be.

I trust autometer or autogage. They are basically the same thing just one is higher priced can't remember what way it is....

They are decent gauges that are affordable.

Da nmn, I ordered a pillar pod and sun pro analog illuminated gauge. Just kinda liked the older style rather than those glowsift types. Quad pillar, going to add some other gauges to it eventually, egts, boost, etc
