Hey everyone I'm finally close to getting my 6.9 done and it's time to deal with the clutch. Thanks to snow removal money from the seasons first plowable storm I made enough money to buy the injection pump OR a clutch. Not both. Since the injection pump is on top of the engine I'll be dealing with that later obviously. I'm seeing this Valair 12.25 x 1.25 clutch kit but it says must be used with their flywheel. Is this under the assumption that it will be replacing a stock dual mass flywheel/clutch? I all ready have a single mass flywheel/clutch; it was installed by the previous owner. There is nothing wrong with it, it does not slip but the truck is currently 7.3 NA with a very tired and not properly timed injection pump, ZF5 and 4.10's in the rear. 89 F350 dump, pulls a trailer and skid steer loader with a attachment so roughly 9000lbs. The 6.9 is cammed, 093 ATS Wicked Wheel II, gonna be bull moose or r&d 90, intercooled hopefully by spring. I just figure best to upgrade after all the reading I have done about slipping clutches.

So,
1. Will this 12.25 clutch bolt up to my single mass flywheel?
2. Any need for the South Bend 450hp clutch?
3. I've been reading about a 13" clutch but wondering who makes it.

Thanks for you help everyone.

I personally would not fix it if it's not broken. Wait and see if the clutch gives a problem. If not, great. If it does, stay off the throttle till you get another one in place. You are in control, the clutch will only slip if you push it to the max. You may find something else broken before the clutch gives out.

If you have a SMF, /any/ SMF, don't worry about it. It's not the clutch that slips; it's the "torque limiter" clutch inside the DMF. You could put a 11" disk on there and have /plenty/ of headroom... far more than the little 1" wide band of the "torque limiter" POS!
(Also, even so, I pushed around 250RWHP through it before it started slipping once it got hot. At least double what you are pushing N/A.

IP... save up if you have to, but get a /good/ one. R&D IDI Performance or Conestoga diesel. No Pensacola or other cheap ****.
