ive been on this forum and read multiple threads but just want to verify as I found a mechanic local that is going to time my truck. Stated he worked back in the day for international and asked if I knew the specs. I told him around 8-9 he kind of got startled and said it should be around 3, can someone just verify the btdc timing tou recommend it set to, thanks

It is indeed 8-9 I think ford says + or - 2* I can verify that when I get back to the shop with my old service manual

I generally set turbo trucks at 8*

My mechanic said he usually sets them around 6. That's where mine is. I like it.

8.5 +- 2 so anywhere between 6.5- 10.5 is techncally acceptable. Mines at 7 with factory turbo and I like it. Non gated turbos like it more retarded and na seems to like a little advance on the scale

My guess this mechanic in the day used the luminosity probe type timing method. They used an AFTER TOP DEAD CENTER timing. It was something like -2 degrees at 1400 rpm too. The pulse method of timing is what is generally felt like the best way to time and that is 8.5 dbtdc. My engine likes 9.4 degrees before top dead center.
