Whoa! scary stuff. I had a post lift on an older battery in my Dad's ranger once. Cranking was weak so I replaced it for that reason. Never considered the possibility of an internal short. Thanks for posting this.
I'm thinking about building a battery box under the bed, behind the starter. Good idea, I'm definitely going to go about the rebuild in a proactive manner.So... time to move the batteries to a less flammable location, like mounted to the frame rail behind the cab? Where there's far less flammable stuff close by to ignite?
As an added benefit, batteries there would give you more room up front for intercooler/turbo piping!
