Just pick up my first Diesel. The truck ran bad when I got her. She was blowing white smoke when I first started her; but all it takes is a good read to figure out it is caused by lack of fuel. So I went out to look over the fuel lines and someone cut out the old mechanic pump and put in a Mr. Gasket low flow sump pump and probable thought it said fuel pump or though it could deliver enough fuel. He Guest poorly. I just went out and got an electric Carter Diesel Fuel Pump and five wire relay kit and installed it. I redid all the lines to 3/8 and set it for 6.9 max PSI on the new Fuel regulator, and wallah; no more white Smoke on start up and no white smoke on heavy acceleration. The motor sound OK but has an exhaust leak so that is my next project. Thanks Oil burners for having the articles on white smoke! I look forward to reading articles on exhaust system so I can put a nice system to match to new fuel system.

Thank DaveBen, I was out driving my first F250 Diesel 4x4 today and started with eating some good turkey, and a sheet of paper to make a list of what work and what I need to bring to the forum so, I can make sure it will work when she done. I replace the thermostat in the truck about four month ago and that is how I end up buying the truck. I got a service manual on line and now its time to put it to work. when I was under the truck I took my vacuum pump and checked the fuel return lines to tank got fuel back on first pull. when I tested return line to engine holding vacuum. Now this means the rubber ends are shot in tank? will this cause fuel to bleed out of Fuel pump to injection pump loop?
