I just changed my oil in the truck, and I may have accidentally over filled it by a half quart or so .

I normally just add the 11 Qts and call it good (I run the PSD filter) but I lost track of the jug I was on and poured most of it in.

My question is this:

A) What is the proper way to check the oil in these motors?

B) Will that extra half QT cause any issues?

Yes. Fully warmed up to operating temp. Then checked 15 minutes after shut down.thats in tbe owners manual. I would not worry about only 1/2qt over. It will burn it off quickly.

Ok thanks guys!!

Ya I have the owners manual, but I decided I wanted to make more room in my glove box and put the manual somewhere safe....

Well it’s safe alright, because I can’t find it lol

We all have that "safe spot" where things go to hide... As already posted just let it rest so oil drains back after a warmup.

15 minutes? I thought it was 10. That’s how I check mine.

I wait a while to check mine. The time is not very critical, just wait several minutes.

Just check it immediately after running, then wait 5,10,15 minutes to see how much it changes.

Personally, I usually check mine cold. If its low after everything has had ample time to drain back to the pan, then I now it's definitely low. Lol

Leave it on the low mark then warm it up and check it again. It should be about 1/2 way up into the safe zone.

I check mine both just for curiosity lol. I check it cold, and 10-15minutes after shutting her down.

I used to look at where I parked for stains. My truck was pretty tight and didn’t burn much.

I'm envious!
I'm used to my trucks(with worn old engines, seals etc) at least keeping the underside of the truck nice and shiny, if not actually dripping it on the ground.
'Course, the rusted out fuel tank(slated for replacement) just adds to the marking...
