I figured I better start a build thread and keep everything together.

I started with a non-running '86 F-250, 6.9 IDI with a T-19 4-speed transmission, it would crank slow but not fire. First thing I did was strip our all the wiring (Mostly Rotted), interior, and anything that I wasn't keeping. At one point I rolled it out side and hosed out the interior because it was just sheet metal. It needed a new starter and new batteries. I first started it with the batteries sitting on the ground and pulling fuel out of a 1 gallon jug. Compression test showed 390-420 on all 8.

I started running new wires for everything, keeping it as simple as possible. After it was running I stumbled upon a waste gated Banks SideWinder for $150. When installing it I opted to replace the valley pan so I could weld a fitting into the oil return port and run a SS Oil Return with compression fittings to keep the engine more water tight. (It might get a snorkel later) Painted everything as she went back together. Still running the original Injectors and Injection Pump that came with the truck.

Couldn't find any red interior parts to finish mine off so I went with black everything so I can always paint to match. anything that was missing got a piece of SS to fill the void. Drew up a new cluster panel that goes around the original square Tach and holds new 2" gauges and had it laser cut with switch panels.
Interior is almost done all I have left is to paint the floor boards with the roll on bed liner.

Fuel Tank is new, holds 30 gallons right behind the cab, SS tubing runs both ways, to and from the tank. no more plastic fuel lines. Batteries are mounted off the side of the tank and Radiator is mounted behind it. Just got the Water lines plumbed in they're 2" 16Ga SS with flex joint in a few places.

I keep this updated as I make further changes.

Are you going to be studding the engine? It seems like it may get pushed hard sometimes, and Now it looks like the engine would be easy to at least drop studs in one at a time?

Currently I don't have any plans to, I am only pushing 10 PSI Max. If I go to head studs I would like to get the head dressed as well and a new gasket put it.

10 psi on a 6.9 is pushing it a bit I think; let us know how it holds up.

So far its been doing good on 10 PSI, it almost never actually sees 10 unless I'm over 2,300 rpm and on the floor, normal driving is 3-6, its been a few months and its good so far.

I have the radiator hooked back up and even without fans I wont go above 210 degrees. When its 70 outside.
I figured I have close to a 12 gallon coolant system now, 4 gallons just in the hoses.

I bet moving all that weight behind the cab helps the ride quality, looks good

Yeah, no, you probably don't have the fuel cranked either, so you are good.
That's 10 PSI(peak) with little fuel, not 10 PSI, wastegate limited, with as much fuel as you could burn.
That's a lot more powerful, but obviously higher cylinder pressures and more stressful.

That's not surprising, I ran my '88 with stock cooling system without a fan for quite a few months - unloaded, it was always fine, usually staying at 190, but would slowly tick up sitting at a stop light.
Pulling an empty 20' flatbed trailer, I recall it being fine on the highway, was up in the 200s when I had to stop for a light or two, but it got up to 220 when I had to climb the last dirt road hill at 10mph and there was no airflow... in the middle of summer, probably 85F?
That was when I put it back on.

I actually used to make it a routine to run my truck without a fan in the winter. Like you say, idling in traffic, or steady speeds below 10 MPH were the only times I encountered problems. Gave a measurable bump in MPGs too. Not earth shattering, but it was consistently up by 1-2 MPG.

Chad:

Looks like an ambitious build. Any plans to beef up the frame?

And $150 for a sidewinder? You stole it.

The Frame is getting boxed in anywhere that something attaches like suspension and roll cage.

Why suicide style on the tube doors?

Slam Latches are really hard to use when they are behind you, i didn't want to have to do the reach across to get out every time.

The interior got finished over the weekend ill post some pictures when i get a chance.
Next up is the fan shroud, thermostat, and 130A Alternator.

Update on the build,
axels out of a 93 f350, Dana 60/ Sterling
205 t case

A Lot left to do.

I want to relocate the fuel filter as it kinda sticks up high, if I move it down lower will the air bleed system not work anymore?

I am trying to package everything tight to the motor so it's easier to protect.
