Eh... I'm kind of limited in new trucks that I could buy. Mainly because it's basically impossible to get anything with a stick these days!

It may be more of a pain, but I'll stick with my old, mechanical, manual trucks. I see no reason for an automatic, and just hate the way they feel and drive.
And when things fail... they just plain suck!
If you can get a manual truck idling, you can make it move with a stick. With an auto, you have to have enough power to get it moving, get a high enough RPM etc. I've run into several cases where this was actually important within the last year.

One of the secrets to building wealth is the never buy a new vehicle, you lose money the minute you drive it off the lot. Once you have a little wealth still avoid buying a new vehicle, it is still an instant loss.

I prefer older vehicles and the wife prefers newer ones. She also never buys new, but a year or two old is good enough. I know whenever I do fine the percect Yukon XL Denali I will have to fix some things, it is acceptible to me, I have been doing it for decades.

My best friend just bought a 2017 3500HD Duramax, CCLB SRW Denali 4WD, fully loaded for $52k, it had something like 6,000 miles on it, he gave 52k (IIRC) for a 70k truck. In my world it was still too much but he is a doctor and to him it was a bargain, and compared to one with zero miles on it, it was. The guy who bought it with zero miles traded it back for the same truck as a dually, he lost 20k+ instantly, he probably didn’t care but what a waste.

I've always been the same way. In fact, when I finally decided to upgrade to a newer truck, I went with a 2 year old F-150. Saved probably 5-10K on it by doing so. Truck had 35,000 miles on it when I purchased it.

With my job taking so much of my time, I just couldn't justify spending my free time keeping older vehicles running. I love old Ford trucks. The 92 is still around, it just doesn't get driven much. I figure if I worked this hard to do so well in my career, what's the point of the salary if I don't enjoy it a little bit.

You're not kidding! The only full size line with manuals are the Cummins powered Rams and for small trucks you can get a 2WD Colorado or Tacoma. I don't know if the Tac comes in 4WD but I never seriously considered it. Sometimes it comes down to settling: I wanted a Ford and got a Chevy, wanted a stick and got an auto, wanted a long bed and got a standard bed, etc. The only thing I really got was the crew cab and I wondered how I lived without it. Even in older trucks around here, people want insane money for 200k beat up work trucks.

It’ll be hard to find a manual transmission in any new truck these days. Super duties don’t even have that as an option anymore. With the advanced technology of automatic transmissions nowadays, they are far superior than a manual IMO. Towing a 15k load behind me from a dead stop is no problemo due to the super low stall torque converters, and the computer system knows exactly what gear the truck needs to be in at all times.
Never have I wished I wanted a manual while towing in my 6.7 psd, aside from a stick being more fun to drive. I’ll have to admit that.
Now if we are talking an automatic transmission, let’s say the E40D or the C6 in our old idi pickups, I would gladly take a ZF-5 any day of the week. The E40D is a plain stupid transmission & the C6, even though it’s tougher than nails, has no overdrive.
