The last time I looked, most of the lower end units were barely keeping up with egt's. So I gave up ...

Kalvin's work for a living, he and russ had a setup in mind for my truck that is no longer in production(norcal gtg a few years back at idiots) kinda hoping things got better.

It was nearly two decades ago, but IIRC there was a big difference between the cheap IC's and SPEARCO, which was pretty much the benchmark at the time...
The comment that the Hypermax was really heavy has me thinking hard about thermal mass. A heavy IC with good air flow over it has got to be a better heat sink...

The cx racing cooler weighs quite a bit too, it's a bar and plate design aluminium is nice and thick I was expecting much less when I ordered it, for the price but it's a nice heavy chunk of metal lol if I had the money I would go with hypermax bolt in would be nice but I like to build with things anyway and at a little less than 1/3 the cost I feel it's worth it for the slight customizing, I have no access to a welder everything I do is bolt on and cutting. Been trying to get it on but have had to many other small projects on my weekend s lately

I take pride in design stuff myself, we live in a off the grid RV with among other things, a 12v powered 7.5 gph RO system with UV sterilization of my design. It just that time can be such a commodity. My wife says that I need a whole box of round tuits o_O Oh, yeah, I like to save money too...

I didnt exaggerate much, that sucker is heavy. I have to say a 7.3 powerstroke ic is probably 20-30 pounds. I would not have bought a intercooler setup had it not have come with the turbo kit I bought. However the hypermax is a very nice kit, works very well, With some work bolts in very nicely. The price is steep I have to say. I would build your own before buying one. You could go the route of buying one, or what I probably would have done is get a 7.3 intercooler. I did buy a 12 valve dodge intercooler for $50 before I bought my turbo kit so I could intercool my truck eventually. It would be a very close fit. Seeings how dodges have a smaller radiator. Either way I ended up selling it as I had a hypermax one with the turbo. Back on topic. 7.3 intercooler or 6.0 whatever is cheaper, lets be real most of us wont push 30+ psi regularly. so buy a ebay $100 kit of 3'' piping. It has various 90* 180* and such piping. and mock up how you want to run it. I would also suggest since you dont have a welder possibly buying the r&d idi performance intake manifold for ease of mounting ic, but you would have to do away with the airbox. (which I cant wait to get rid of mine) heck might even be able to use most of the 7.3 piping. Use silicone boots for the joints. I have to agree. the hypermax is a nice kit and easy to install. but i swear part of what makes us idi people who we are is the ability to put together something nice for the best cost. I would build my own.
edit: that is also why I put together the thread of intercooler piping pics, to give ideas as to what others had done. If you look only myself and one other one in there are hypermax kits. All the rest others have built.

Pondering question. could you (bear with me) use the 7.3 intercooler backwards? The factory has the hot side coming in on the passenger side and the cold on the drivers side. Could you plumb the hot side in through the drivers side and cold on the passenger side? My thought is to use the intake snail (providing you have a 093 or snail like the 093 had) and route it similar to the hypermax kit.
Being that you have turbo compressor and could realisticly route it whichever way you want. run the compressor to the drivers side, intercooler then have the charge piping come to the passenger side and use the snail to connect that way.
