I fully grasp the ideoligy of newer.....

Its reason I am looming at 2011 F350....

Good luck w purchase

They are good trucks & engines. Night & day power having 400hp/800ft lbs torque. Only problem is the outrageous price tags for a newer rig.

Gone to the dark side. Certified 2014 Silverado 1500 LTZ z71 crew cab. Good warranty package and scheduled mx. I felt I needed the extra doors loading up the little guy and all his stuff and could get away with a short bed. I don't haul anything heavier than a canoe or two and for the wood I can have it dropped off or use the trailer. I looked at similar Fords and I was really disappointed with the quality and features at a similar price point or model trim level. I have owned a Ford at one point for the last 25 years.

I have owned the 4.8, the 5.3 and the 6.0 and they are rock solid. The wife has a 2015 Z71 4wd with almost every available option, and the new 4.3 V6. Honestly, it has as much power as my old 4.8 had, and it is a comfortable ride too.

I am looking for 2001 or 2002 Yukon XL Denali AWD, I have a love affair with the 6.0 liter, and my old bones want the supreme ride the Denali gives.

You should find one with a 8.1 :sly

Real world use for the dealerships I was doing maintenance for, the 8.1 truck got the exact same mileage as the 6.0 truck.
Except when towing, 12k worth of trailer and man lift, and the 8.1 got 8mpg, the 6.0 got 5mpg on the highway doing 70 from Minot to Williston.
Both had 4.10 gears, the 8.1 was an '03, the 6.0 was a '10.

The Denali has 3:73’s and only had the 6.0 in it for the years I am interested in. It will be highway use for my trips to the mountains several times a year. The AWD for snow and the air ride for my old body and the comfort it wants.

My 2003 2500HD with the 6.0 and 4:10’s will be used for work, as it always has been. It has been an awesome truck, now about to turn over 314,000 miles. The heaviest it is asked to pull is my 18’ flat bed with my tractor on it. It doesn’t struggle with that load.

But to be fair, the 4.8's were gutless, imo. Lol

I can't believe they put the 8.1 in some of the caddy cars.

The 4.8 wasn’t really gutless with the 5 speed, Gibson headers and exhaust and a tune. :D In stock form with the auto, it certainly was.

It was the truck I regret getting rid of the most, RCSB, lifted 4x4 sitting on 34’s. It rode like a tank but was very peppy.

I do agree with the OP about the newer Ford’s, I watched my son in laws 2007 literally fall apart on him.

I actually kow someone whe seriously regretted selling his 8.1 for a newer 6.0 for that exact reason. He's a contractor, and hauling a skid-steer bobcat around makes quite a difference in mileage.

Eventually the call of the newer trucks gets to us all.

These newer half tons are quite capable. Mine is my DD.

I went to Ford last year (was still working for the dealership family that included Chevy in Minot and Dodge in Williston at the time LOL), and decided I'd let them know what I wanted.
Financing isn't an issue if I decide I want a new vehicle. ;Sweet

My requirements were simple (or so I thought):
1/2 ton, V8, extended cab, 4wd, cloth seats, block heater, remote start, class IV/V hitch
And now we get into the things they couldn't do with those...
8' bed, no factory radio, 2-tone paint with blue and white, sliding rear window, vinyl flooring, and steel wheels

The funny thing is though, after they said they couldn't do it, I talked to one of the salesmen at the Dodge dealership in Williston, and he asked me "Do you want white on blue or blue on white?" LOL
I couldn't do it though, I hate the way the newer Dodge pickups look...... :puke:

Wait, you asked them to sell it to you without a radio?

Anyways, on Ford's website I can build pretty close to what you wanted.

1/2 Ton - Check
V8 - Check
Extended Cab - Check
4WD - Check
Cloth Seaths - Check
Block Heater - Can't find, but i know my 15 XLT has it
Remote Start - Check
Class IV Hitch - Check
8' Bed - Check
No factory radio - Gotta at least have the basic radio
2 tone paint - admittedly their options are very limited. Got blue and gray though
Sliding rear window - check
vinyl flooring - check
steel wheels - only available on XL, but had to go XLT for some of the other stuff. You could probably get the dealer to swap them with another truck though.

I have debated going new, there really isn't anything that I do now that an F150 couldn't handle... biggest regular chore is towing a 3500 pound boat - hell my wife's caravan will pull that. The problem is I really really enjoy the uniqueness of my old truck; every day it gets more special. Mine is very well maintained - I figure spending $1000 to fix something right, or upgrading parts, is still a lot cheaper than a new one. Anything that breaks on mine is peripheral crap like belt tensioner, brake caliper anyway.

I must admit that this week I have built and priced (online) an F250 diesel, and a 2500 with the Cummins  I just stick to my story that I will consider a new truck when this one is paid for :D

One of the secrets to building wealth is the never buy a new vehicle, you lose money the minute you drive it off the lot. Once you have a little wealth still avoid buying a new vehicle, it is still an instant loss.

I prefer older vehicles and the wife prefers newer ones. She also never buys new, but a year or two old is good enough. I know whenever I do fine the percect Yukon XL Denali I will have to fix some things, it is acceptible to me, I have been doing it for decades.

My best friend just bought a 2017 3500HD Duramax, CCLB SRW Denali 4WD, fully loaded for $52k, it had something like 6,000 miles on it, he gave 52k (IIRC) for a 70k truck. In my world it was still too much but he is a doctor and to him it was a bargain, and compared to one with zero miles on it, it was. The guy who bought it with zero miles traded it back for the same truck as a dually, he lost 20k+ instantly, he probably didn’t care but what a waste.

Yep.
Not uncommon, if you know you aren't leaving the factory radio, why spend the extra money on it?
They just don't do it on the trucks anymore.

Any why would they? That would be like me asking them to leave the stock muffler & air intake off for a discount price because I want to put a performance system in it. Dealerships have to draw the line somewhere...
