Well, bad news. Trans does need a rebuild.
Somewhere I thought I read the dexron 6 for these is clear. Wrong.
Whatever's in there is clear, and it is burnt.
Personally I think the car lot maybe tried to cover up the trans with Lucas or the like. If only I could prove it. I'll likely go back and talk to the trans shop some more today. Until we can figure out what to do with it/pay for a rebuild. Lol

Well as crappy of a problem as that is. It'll probably be a pretty good ride after its fixed.

That's a real bummer though. Rebuilds aren't cheap.

How long have you had it? Is there any applicable lemon law?

Could I? Yes.
If I had more time and it wasn't the wife's DD, then I likely would.
Really, she wants to trade it. I don't. Gonna lose big time.

And I don't kniw, I just thought I had read that somewhere. Lol
I touched on the lemon law thing above. If it's sold "as is," not much you can do, unless you can prove they tried to cover up a problem. Which leads me to the clear atf that's in it.
Didn't get a chance to go by the trans shop yesterday. But I'll see what he thinks.

Someone could of use brake fluid. It's an old trick for older transmission. Lucas is red coming out the bottle of trans stop slip. I hate band aids or PFM fluid. I used to work at a parts store and everyone would ask will this work. I would stand there tell them is a band aid on a big problem.

Well.......
She gone.
Personally I wanted to just keep and fix it. But not my choice, as it wasn't my car.
It has been replaced with a 2011 ford edge. It's kona blue metallic. Only 70k miles. It it's currently getting 27.6 MPG.
I'll get a daylight pic. We for sure made the 2 salesmen work for their pay today. Lol

Sure glad I read the whole 4 pages. Gave me some incite on what to look for on the 2012 Ford Escape XLS FWD. I just got it 2 days ago (10/27/17) for my Daughter with the I-4 engine and 6-speed. Drove it for the first time yesterday, seemed to shift hard into 6th. Sure neglected to look at the Carfax, dumb me. Found out it was sold new as a lease car and was re-registered as lease to same company year after year, then sold at Auction. Only 80,246 proven miles on it. Does have a dealers 3 month, 3000 miles drive train Warranty. It was driven for 63,000+ miles with what is called an Ikey set at Max speed of 70 MPH. Message Center tells me that. Average MPG said 23.7.

Yep, that mykey thing is cool. Can set max speed, mute radio til seatbelt is buckled, etc.
Is that I4 the duratec? Or the ecoboost?

I was seeing a x ford service tech saying he recommends doing spark plugs at 60k miles. So I reckon I'll end up doing those.
Have to pull the intake, which isn't too hard. Also recommends the pcv valve while you're back there.

It's the Duratec engine 2.5L

Yep, gonna change the spark plugs and the PCV when it warms up a bit. High of 43 today and raining, gonna be in the low 60's Thursday.
Also gonna do a complete fluid change, trans is a little on the brown side, engine oil looks good, but gonna change to full synthetic, 5w20.

The Driver's seat is kinda rough, was looking to change front seats from my 2000 Windstar, which are like new, but the Escape has Airbags attached to them, bummer. This damn thing has more Airbags that can surround you like being in a Cacone. Gonna investigate whether just the bottom of the seat can be changed, Escape is manual adjust, Windstar is six way electric.

Thanks for that info.

The Mazda L-series is a mid-sized inline 4-cylinder gasoline engine designed by Mazda, ranging in displacement from 1.8L to 2.5L. Introduced in 2001, it is the evolution of the cast-iron block F-engine. The L-series is used by Ford as their 1.8L to 2.5L 'Duratec' world engine.

The L-engine uses a chain-driven DOHC, 16-valve valvetrain with an all-aluminum block construction and cast-iron cylinder liners. Other features include fracture-split forged powder metal connecting rods and a one-piece cast crankshaft.

I'm not sure on the way of the seats.
Ours are fairy comfortable. I do wish they were power. Maybe the limited or sport version have power?
There are some pretty good seat covers out nowadays.
Ours says 98% oil life. But I can't say if they actually changed it. It's not too dark, not real clear either though.
I do plan to go synthetic.

I pulled out the cabin filter the other day. Filter was brand new.
But someone left the stock screen installed, which was all kinds of nasty.

The dealership ordered seat covers for it, just hope they have brains enough not to cover the airbags when they install them.

They have crappy stitching over the airbag part of the seat.
They call it a "breakaway panel" or some nonsense.

I will have to double check. I believe outs has a plastic cover over the airbags. Lol
When I mentions seat covers, they have ones that are airbag compatible. Technology sure has come a long ways. Lol
