Last week was my breaking point. Since my accident with the Jetta and it's early totaling by insurance the 250 was thrust into the spotlight as my daily driver. With that, the new Moose Pump was in order ASAP and I believed it to be a reliable and safe driver. Unfortunately after about 45 days of driving daily it became clear to me that this was going to require as much maintenance work as driving time. The glow plug controller crapped out, the glow plug wiring was rotting away, my batteries were going on 6+ years old, the Dana 50 was starting to leak at the pumpkin, the trailer lights weren't working, and a few other, but hassling issues began to creep up, not to mention the injector line and the rust continuing it's march across the floorboards and my constant uneasiness about the transmission. The final tipping point was when my 27 month old son asked me why I can't play with him and why I'm always working on the truck. That said, later this week it will be going to someone with three other IDI's two towns over. He pulled up in a 1994 Super Duty with his son following in a 1988 F150 2WD so I feel that it will be going to a good home. It had served me well for four years and had gathered about 20 cord of wood, two camping trips, canoes, kayaks, and other general driving. Before my son it was fun and cool to work on stuff but my time is best spent elsewhere.

Many thanks to those on this forum who so selflessly have helped others, myself included, to keep these trucks on the road. I told the new owner about it and will remind him when he picks it up.

Later this week I'll be listing some stuff which he declined. Two Kent Moore meters, parts, badging, etc.

Once again, thank you.

sorry about the truck. it does get to a point of too muck work to have it a DD truck.

I might be interested in your timing equipment.

Gone to the dark side. Certified 2014 Silverado 1500 LTZ z71 crew cab. Good warranty package and scheduled mx. I felt I needed the extra doors loading up the little guy and all his stuff and could get away with a short bed. I don't haul anything heavier than a canoe or two and for the wood I can have it dropped off or use the trailer. I looked at similar Fords and I was really disappointed with the quality and features at a similar price point or model trim level. I have owned a Ford at one point for the last 25 years. Nobody is more surprised than me with the switch and there were more than a few hours sitting around the campfire thinking it through. I did know the dealer and his family personally for the last decade and was given a deal that couldn't be passed up.

Them 5.3 are nice.
Apparently like to suck oil though. I think they remedied it on the newer models.
Apparently everyone recommends disabling the DOD/AFM.
Good trans IF it's taken care of. Lol

Good trucks, but yeah the 5.3 loves to burn oil. Seems like all gm engines love to burn oil for some reason. You go to the dealership and mention it to them, and they tell you “oh that’s normal” :***:

Hydro-idi, it's only normal for your 98 CR250 and my 97 KX250 to burn oil;). Mu2bdriver, don't just drop the forum. You may feel the urge to get another IDI someday and I doubt that you'll be kicked off for selling your only IDI. You may have valuable input for someone else too.

All good things come to an end. Kids are young for only a short time, enjoy it while you can.

When your kid is all grown up, you'll have more time to play diesel trucks.
There will probably be more than one or two still running. :)

Next thing you know, you'll be like me....... LOL
My kids and family take precedence over other things, glad to see yours do too.
Enjoy your family, you'll get another IDI at a later date if you want one.

That said, sometimes I just can't bring myself to get rid of a vehicle, even though for whatever reason I can't drive it anymore, thus why I have 13 running/driving vehicles.....
Most have big blocks...... :sly

Edit: make that 14, I forgot to count the DD Metro LOL

Thanks guys. I'm not going anywhere; this forum is awesome. So much so that I just sent money for supporting membership. I guess it's better late than never. I sunk 4+ years of my life into the truck and more time searching one out so I have enough knowledge to be dangerous.

I hear ya man. When I got my truck my little one was but a wee window licker.

Part of the reason it’s taken me 4 years to get to where I am is because I tried not to completely ignore the family and everything else. Do I have regrets about the time spent on it. Maybe a couple but I’m trying to play catch up now.

The saving grace for me is that he has always enjoyed crawling around in the garage with me and I hope that continues. I don’t get much done when he’s out there with me but I’m slowly getting him trained up. He loves to ride in it now and loves to go camping so it’s time to make hay on those fronts while I can.

Thankfully I have not been in a position where I had to push the truck into DD status. I totally get that while it could be made reliable enough, there’s something to be said for just jumping in my rice burner in the morning, hitting the key and driving off.

Like the others have said, don’t be a stranger! Drop in once in a while if for no other reason just to scratch the itch.

My idi is my DD and with all I've done it's a reliable one. No complaints. But I got 3 kids and my truck has back seat but only two door and pita here lately cause my boy is 9 and two daughters are 6 and 4 so the 4 door and better mpg is a blessing. I love chebbys so no hate here. It's a nice ride and when they grow up u will be glad with the decision. And if u need another idi I have a stockpiling problem so let me know if interested later on. Lol. Everyone around Parker county hates these trucks but I find them unique and love the simplicity.
