I have a 99 7.3 with a non functional a/c, its not functioning for several reasons and here in Canada I really don't need a/c at all and never desire even using it so I'd like to remove the compressor and all is fixings to eliminate one more potential failure item and make for better access to other things in the engine bay. Simplification.

Question is, is there an a/c compressor bypass kit and belt that I could buy? Just at a glance, its doesn't' look as if the factory a/c belt idler will work even with a shorter belt

Curious to hear your thoughts. Thanks.

Yup stock belt fits perfectly with that Dorman a/c delete pulley. The delete kit however is very cheaply made, I hope it lasts a while. The pulley itself is plastic with lots of play in the bearing, not sure what kind of bearing is in there, I was scared to take it apart in the event that I might break it. Anyways its in, and there is now more room in the engine bay to deal with future problems, that was my main objective so I'm happy. Simplicity is key in my opinion

Update.
After aprox 800 miles, I had a continuously squeaking serp belt. Ok, tossed a new belt on. It seemed ok for about a day then it started squeaking again. So upon a VERY close inspection, I realized that the Dorman compressor delete pulley (the entire thing including mounting bracket) were slightly crooked, causing the alignment squeak. Took it off and put it back on several times with different bolts, some washers etc...and could not get the ***** to be 100% true. So put the A/C compressor back on and the belt is quiet as can be.

I would not recommend buying one of these to anyone. Just my 7.3 cents worth

Hey so I’m basically trying to do the same thing on my 2000 f350 7.3... I am just getting started because I realized I can’t get to some of the valve cover bolts that are stuck on the passenger side. I want to get rid of this big honking box so I can turn a bigger wrench in there.. thought I’d reach out since your the only other person I’ve found on the web that’s done this before. I understand the idler pulley situation, but my big question is just how much stuff can I remove?? I don’t want anything in it that doesn’t absolutely have to be. Long term goal- simplify.
