Hey all!
Hoping for some help on a problem with my 1990 7.3 NA IDI, E4OD, 4X4, 130K miles.
This is to be my retirement truck which I bought 2 yrs ago at approx 123k miles so it's history is unknown. I have been slowly grooming this truck (REBUILT TRANS, new hoses, fuel return lines, other small maintainance items) for a turbo add next year if funding allowes.
With winter around the corner and clear threads on how to replace fuel filter, injectors and glow plugs, I dived in to service these items following the write-Ups.
All went well and with a compressed air dried off fuel injector lines and valley pan after bleeding so I went for a test drive with a warm engine. The truck is stationed at the in-laws home 100 miles away at a 5000ft eleven so I only get to work on it now and then.
It was immediately clear that the truck was running smoother and quieter than before the above wrenching, I'm all smiles! After a 1 mile unloaded uphill pull (again, smoother with a bit more power) and smooth downhill coast for a turn around after the 5 miles test drive, I floored the loud pedal to merge with the 60mph traffic and build speed for the hill I just came down. The truck reved to approx tach red line (never had it over 2800 before!) With much black exhaust and shifted into 2nd gear and started to blubber and fall on its face pulling the hill at barely 40 mph!
I nursed her back popped open the hood (engine running) and could see 2 injectors wet and bubbling fuel at threads. Shut her down, tightened the injectors (1/4 turn to get tight) after loosening lines and with engine running, cracked all lines one at a time to bleedair, all lines squirted or fizzled when loosened. Fuel filter had no leaks.
The engine now runs rough and when given throttle, shakes badly and labors to Rev in neutral. No exhaust smoke is present.
No coolant or oil leaks can be seen, radiator cap off no fizz or sign of oil, dipstick oil not diluted, no milkshake on oil cap.

Where to next?

Welcome to the forum. If you changed the injectors please tell the forum if these are new or rebuilt and who did you get them from. When you replaced these injectors did you make sure the copper gaskets came out? Sometimes they are stuck in the heads. Leaking injectors is not fun but where they are leaking from is important too. Hope you replaced the return lines and the o rings on each injector too.

Thanks all for your responses.
The replacement injectors were new in the box (E-bay supplier) and came with new copper washers and new O-rings.
Each old injector came out with a copper washer stuck to the injector, no fishing required.
What I find most odd is that the initial first 5miles of test drive the engine felt smoother, more responsive and quieter. The terrible running started only after I floored the throttle (never did this before, respect for its age) and now remains at any engine RPM.
