Hey guys new to the forum, and the idi world. Been working on an 89 f-250 with the hypermax kit. The turbo has a tiny bit of bearing play up and down. Is this ok? Its not into the housing yet but would rather fix before its trashed. My question is what kind of turbo is this? I can't find a tag or any manufacture markings. The numbers on turbo are a/r 1.15 and 70. And 35-93 or maybe 98 on exhaust side. Thanks!

Run the engine first, then shut it off and check; oil will take up a bit of clearance side-to-side and make it run true.

My understanding is that you only need to worry if it touches the side(with no oil pressure) or there is end-to-end play. a little side play is OK, considering there is oil and bushings involved.

If you do find much end or side play, from my experience trying to field overhaul the Garrett is iff-y. I just had my Hypermax pulse turbo gone thru by AGP Turbo in Mesa. Good people, quick turnaround. Was $300 to rebuild the Garrett non-ball bearing type turbo.
