just a quick question. Will a 94 idi hold the 97 powerstroke radiator, and if not what mods are needed? I'm working on putting one in, they look identical, and figgerd I'd ask here before I start loosing bolts pulling the 97 clip apart. Thanks fellas

All 1992-1997 diesel radiator supports are the same.

Before this, they used to use short, wider ones in IDI trucks which didn't come equipped with air conditioning. In '92 and up, they all use the tall one regardless of IDI or PSD or air conditioning.

The short/wide IDI rad is typically all metal (brass) construction. The PSD ones I've seen (tall/square) are aluminum with plastic tanks.

The former fits in the gas rad support. Not exactly sure about mixing and matching rads with the engine...

Champion also makes a heavy duty all-aluminum idi radiator that replaces the narrow/tall one... looks stronger than the PSD aluminum/plastic one.

Is there any advantage to the powerstroke radiator vs the IDI tall skinny?
The early PSDs actually had the IDI radiator, with a cap and an external overflow. The later PSD radiator uses a degas reservoir, so you'd have to plumb that in if you converted. Depends on your preference, whether you like the pressurized reservoir vs. the external overflow. Idunno if one is really "better" than the other.
