This is the 2018 Oilburners Rally Location Voting thread.

See the voting choices in the above pole, below is a description of each potential host / location.

I will leave this thread open until:

Saturday, September 16, 2017

At that point, the thread will be closed, the host / location will be announced and I or they can start a new thread with all the details of the event.

Choices:

no_mufflers - New Hampshire or Rhode Island

(If this choice wins, the Hew Hampshire or Rhode Island will be decided at a future date, per no_mufflers subsequent post)

The KOA in NH would be more than happy to have us back and the same goes for Mt Washington Auto road. There is lots of other things to do there also. I would have to check the distance but we could go into Epping NH and maybe go down the 1/4 mile. There is a lot of site seeing to do in that area also.

My second place would be in RI. If people are interested in beaches and seafood, this is the place. We could take the ferry to block island and hang there for a day. We could even all take a drive to my shop to hang there and do some wrenching if needed. There is also a dyno shop not too far away we might be able to take a trip to.

hesutton - Gatlinburg, Tennessee

Missy and I were looking at Gatlinburg, TN. Lots campgrounds there. We could camp for two weeks and still have new stuff to try. It's about 4 hours away from us. So folks coming from the west it'll be an extra 4 four hours driving compared to the KY rally.

F350camper / laserjock - Shenandoah Valley Area, Virginia

Well, its official, Mike (laserjock) and I are throwing our hats in for the Shenandoah Valley area in Virginia. Google this zip code for a general area 22835.

We have scouted several campgrounds, ruled out a few, and moved a few to the potential list.

We are thinking the week of July15th through July 21st would be the most practical for the places we are looking at. We would name two desired group events that are close by, to possibly include the Luray caverns, Bear Mountain zip lines, or even a trip to historic downtown Winchester.

There are many other activities to do in this area that are a bit of a drive, but he and I would be willing to lead the way to these other places if folks are interested in the trip. Things like the casino and horse races at Charlestown, the Air and Space museum, or even the Green Bank Observatory telescope, or many other attractions.

There are beautiful mountain roads to take a motorcycle ride on in the area, whether on the way to one of the attractions, or just a short cruise around.

Please make your choice, and in a month, we'll see who the winner is.

I am also posting a link to this thread on facebook also.

Well it was a hard choice. But the Shenandoah valley won my vote. Having lived there for a year it brings back memories and I would love to go back. Awesome scenery in that area. Plus tons of historical sites. I think George Washington had an office every other house in some parts of it. Would love to take the Chebby on skyline drive. Oops did I say that. Lol.

I voted for my backyard. In talking to Erica last night we would really like to make a solid week of it a try to lend a hand were needed to Rob and Mike. The shorter drive helps since most likely I would rent a camper and tow it with Teddy Bear (yes, she renamed my truck this week).

I can't vote. Not that it won't let me, but I couldn't choose lol! I'm really hoping to get to go next year and honestly all the choices are great. Tennessee is a little far but I've always wanted to go anyway so I can't choose lol!

Well I voted for no_mufflers for two reasons: closest for me:idiot: and nobody had voted for him yet . Maybe not for the right reasons but it looks like TN is going to win anyway!
I really want to go to one of these; better now that it is later in July. Just need to convince the Mrs that we need a truck vacation
