Ok so I've been an IDI guy for years. Had a few, loved them, beat them, swore by them...till now..... so 2 weeks ago in the IDI section I posted about going through fuel pumps. 3 mechanical pumps in one week...kinda strange.... so I put an inline electric pump on and, I had my truck back! Drove it around town for 2 days no issues. Drove it 62 miles to my mother's and it puked all but 3 qts of oil!!! After 3 trips to the east coast one to the west and trip to Dallas I can't trust her any more with another trip east and one to Vegas planned I have a lot of work cut out with her...

Anyways take a trailer and go up there to bring her home when I see an 06 crew cab DIESEL with 9 grand on the window at a dealership!

Turns out it's an 06 f250 cclb 4x4 LARIAT and the interior is immaculate! All service records one owner but 250k on the clock... anyways the bank came through and I bring it home tomorrow. It's been studded and it looks like the egr cooler has been replaced but didn't focus on that stuff too much. The out side has it's bruises.

I was skeptical at first, but then I drove it. It ran GOOD. Drove it for close to an hour (The salesman wanted off the lot for a while) I looked it over front to back, very thoroughly and it's been really well cared for and maintained.

So what ya all think?

I think you did well. Trucks like that go for a bit more around here.
Good luck! Nice truck.

Thanks man! You arent too far from us it looks like! Ive been lookin for an 05to 07 for a while and cant find a diesel one under 13k and they are usually plain jane beaters.... so it was a no-brainer. That and it's even the colors I've been wanting to paint my 79!

Yeah I like the colors.
Litlle jealous of your new truck. I need one that seats 6, like yours.
Found a couple decent ones, got excited, then found out they had the solid center console up front, ah bummer.

Yeah not too far away. I am near columbus, ne
I have been to hot springs, think we stayed overnight there on our Black Hills vacation. Nice town, nice area! The Wind Cave was one of our highlights!

The 06 weaknesses are the discharge STC fitting on the HPOP, the EGR cooler, the fuel pressure regulator spring, and the FICM.

Hopefully the EGR cooler that went into it was a BulletProofDiesel one or at least the shell and tube design.

I can't imagine at 250k miles that the STC fitting hasn't already been changed.

You really need some aftermarket gauges. The Torque App or Forscan is highly recommended. The App is not much and the ELM327 adapter is maybe $35 or so.

The first order of business would be to get the truck fully warmed up (oil to operating temperature) and measure the coolant and the oil temps at a speed around 65 - 75. The oil should be no more than 15 degrees hotter than the coolant (preferably at or below 10). If the differential is exceeded, you probably need a new oil cooler. Changing it before it fails is quite advisable.

Also in the gauge arena, adding on a fuel pressure sensor and gauge is needed to protect the injectors. You should have over 45 psig (preferably over 50 psig) at all times.

After all the talk about gauges, it is because the dash gauges are not much more than idiot lights and you can save some money on repairs if you catch problems early.

Generally I recommend the gauges to use on the test run before buying, but you seem to have gotten a pretty good deal.

Congrats.

Thanks man! Yeah I've been doing A LOT of reading on 6.0s lately. I've had a few friends buy them and be very happy with them. The scan gauge 2 is top of my list. I didn't look too hard at the get cooler so I can't say if it's a BPD product. I'm sure their name will be on it. I will look it over more when I get her home. The dealer was gonna get me the number of the P.O. it really helps it's a one owner and very clean over than there's a dent in the box looked like it was put there with a tractor bucket......

Yeah that's why I moved back to the area. I lived in rapid city and it was just too much.

So far so good. Buuutttttt...... it needs an oil cooler. Where's the best place? I've heard only use motorcraft any brand I should stay away from?

Pretty much use only OEM or go with the expensive BulletProofDiesel coolers. Sinister coolers don't cool as well, Dorman is junk, etc.

Been looking at those 6.0s lately. Where is the oil cooler? Is it pretty ease to change out?

It is on top of the engine, in the valley. Since you don't have to lay on your back in the dirt, it is easier in my opinion.

Since you have been looking, and should have had the hood open on at least one..... the oil cooler is directly below the oil and fuel filter area.... it is on top as Dave said, but you do have to remove the turbo and intake to get down to it. I would suggest if you are in that far, and in an non-emissions area, do an EGR Delete while in there. One of the better things I did to mine..... coolant temps are lower across the board......
