the tagged number plate looks to be the same on mine as mikes. I looked at some other numbers on the exhaust flange but none matched.

Haha! Well I ended up going with a stock cam to get enough valve to piston clearance. I'm not sure what exactly was causing my clearance issues, but I gotta keep rolling to have this puppy ready to roll for the rally. It's already getting a little closer than I'd like. I was hoping to get a bunch of miles on before running halfway across the country with it.

Actually retarding it made it worse and actually caused the valves to fully hit the pistons. My friend Jon was able to retard his to get the clearance needed. I was really hoping the .010in decompressed pistons would give me enough, but it wasn't enough to make me feel good about it.

Well I'm now running a stock cam. I really wanted to use the typ4 cam, but I couldn't get a clearance I was comfortable with. That being said I am a little gun shy after putting alot of money in this bottom end, haha! On a positive side at least I was able to get the front of the engine back together last night.

Well first I checked it with playdough and the exhaust side was smashed so thin it was difficult to measure. The intake side was plenty (i don't remember exactly what it was, but it was quite a bit). So then I tried checking it with a dial indicator and could only get the exhaust valve to move ever so slightly somewhere between. 001-.003in. I tried retarding it and it made it worse to the point the valve would actually hit the piston. I didn't try to advance it, but it was a long day of on and off with the head and double and triple checking everything so I just went back to a stock cam.

Well I know it wasn't much tonight, but progress is progress. Tonight I got the oil cooler cleaned up, reassembled with new o-rings and bolted back on the side of the engine. Not gonna lie I'm really iching to get her back together and in the truck again. I feel like the clock is ticking way too fast.
