Ya we are pretty lucky :p . So what do you guys think about using that spot for a coolant filter?

No expert, but I say no. I'm not sure that coolant circulates through the heater lines when you're not using the heater. If I'm right, the filter wouldn't do much good in the summertime.

The hose comes right off the block on the passenger side and runs to the top of the water pump. So I would think it would always have flow..? :dunno

That hose should get circulation all the time, at least I know it does on an OBS. People put the bypass valve in there to bypass the heater core to try to get colder summer a/c due to the blend door seal getting old, so in stock formation that should be a good place for a coolant filter. You should let a true "Brick Noser" confirm but I think that's a good spot for one.

Glad to know that! I thought that it shut off the flow when you turned the temp control to "cold". It's a good thing that I never claimed to know everything. I get proven wrong all of the time!

Brick nose shouldn't have. Shut off to heater core what I've ready it seems to be simplest place to put a coolant filter in those lines.

Just ordered the VR 5869G head gaskets and head bolts. Rock auto has the gaskets for $15 each right now, and the head bolts were less than half of what it would have cost me at autozone. :D

Does anyone have a link or P/N for the correct chaser for the heads? I'd really like to not use a regular tap on them..

I just used a regular tap on a drill and went easy. I know some say not to but it really didn't take out any metal, just a bunch of crud.

No, that is a regular tap. A bottoming tap does not taper near as much at the end. It is pretty much straight all the way down.

Ok, didn't think so but had to ask lol. I think I'll just do what Brian did and make one out of a used head bolt.
