Well I finally tracked down all my oil leaks and what starts happening? That's right, a gallon per thousand mile. I've recently replaced CDR valve and valley grommet, valve cover gaskets, and resealed the timing gear cover. I don't have any smoke and the truck starts great, so is it time for valve seals? At 240k should I just pull the heads and rebuild them or should I just do the seals in chassis? Has anyone had a new CDR not function properly and cause oil consumption? Thanks for the input fellas

Yep, was going to convert to synthetic but started eating oil and thought that would only make it worse... Think I should try a different brand before tearing into the heads?

Yep x2......

Many have reported their IDI's eating Rotella..... Like using Rotella this change because it was on sale and using OH S**T amounts of oil. Switch and go back to the just need to a a little usage level.

If you have a Wally World around.. they have a Castrol diesel oil that my son has been using... doesn;t seem too bad. If you want synthetic, they have the Delo 5w-40 syentetic for a good price. That's what I use in my 6.0 and the old VW......

I faithfully used Rotella for years, always had to add a little. Folks on here suggested not using it, so I changed to Mobile Delvac, very noticable dif.

I have tried many oils. Valvoline/napa 15w40 burns the least.followed by wpp oils.

Here I was thinking rotella was the good stuff. I put 3100 miles on my last oil change and the stick is measuring about 25% down from the full mark. 158k on my 94 N/A. My local tractor supply stocks Delo so I would be interested in how people feel about that as well.

I sent in a few samples of it in the past. Its very, very simmiliar to mobil delvac. Might even use the exact same add pack.

I ran it for 3 years in a small cam cummins. Changed the filters and sent in samples every year. After 3 years in the engine the supertech oil was still servicable.

Update. Got the truck switched over to delo 5-40w sythetic because thats what local wally world had enough of. Took the truck on a 600 mile round trip to the beach and ran 85ish (2500 rpms) most the way there and had no issues other than the truck ate more than a gallon of oil.

Not happy. Am I running just too thin of an oil? Thinking about trying delvac 15-40 sythblend or supertech. Local guy has a factory turbo engine complete for 500... Maybe just need a head job though? 240k so it may need it:dunno
