So whilst I wait to tear into my steering column my mind is spinning on what to do next. I've noticed in the past few weeks that my 6.9 is starting to smoke a little while just driving no load. I've got about 114k thousand on it. My fuel economy is right around 12 if I'm gentle on the throttle. And I've started using a quart of oil every 1000 miles or so. I've got 4.56 rear gears a C6 with Gearvendors a Banks turbo and its a 2wd crew cab.

My 1st question is this:
If I replace my injection pump and Injectors will this remedy the above issues? Or am I due for a rebuild? IdIiot told me that the pump and Injectors are only good for 100k and I know its over that, but I don't want to change that and find there's something else and have to rip into it again.

My 2nd question is:
I'm going to get a Moose pump and Injectors but whats the best setup? I tow a lot and I'm in socal so I'm up mountains frequently. I watch my egt's religiously.

What color is the smoke? I'd call mel and see what he recommends.

Blue/Black kind of like I turned up the pump.

your engine is burning motor oil. Either the turbo is leaking oil into the intake area to be burned, or you have internal engine problems. If you know 100% that the engine has 114k then I would be looking at turbo shaft leak.

In other words, an old injection pump / injectors CANNOT cause oil consumption

The best thing to do is figure out where the oil is going for sure. I would take off intake and check for turbo shaft play - cant remember one way is ok. Not play the other way.
If turbo play is ok compression test is next

Time to start researching. How do you do compression on an idi? Pull a glow plug?

turbo shaft is like they said. see if you can move the impeller from the center to any side similar to this video (you can leave the turbo on the engine). Obviously his had a complete failure:

Compression test is pull the glow plugs, insert a glow plug adapter, crank. Harbor freight kits are a mixed bag of crap, but some of them work with modification. Better to order an adapter and a gauge on amazon for like 20-30$

Do you have a lot of blow by coming through the CDR hose? pull it and see, should have some misty haze at idle that cleans up revved.
