I haven't actually seen anyone be ticketed.
But technically since you aren't paying a road tax on it, they may complain. But doesn't seem to be a problem.

Again, fellas, go back and read my post #22. It's a 2 part deal. Yes, there color is one, but the dye is a specific chemical composition, that is still there no matter the color............

I personally know people that have been nailed for red diesel. I've done some reading, and have talked with them from their experience. It's NOT just color..... yes, the quick check is the color, but if they have a suspicion and have it analyzed, the chemical is there, whither it is mixed with black waste motor oil, or it's fluorescent green..... the chemical is there.

I've also seen the dye plug stuff up.... I have a kerosene heater that had had less than 3 gallons of red diesel in it..... and I need to replace the wick. The wick is so contaminated, it won't even burn.... I know the wick is not a filter, but there are some similarities.

Bottom line, the few cents a gallon difference between on road and off road at this point.... IT'S NOT WORTH IT. I knew someone that lost EVERYTHING due to a red-diesel incident..... It was more then one tank, and he lost EVERYTHING due to the violation, his generations old family farm, his home and other business..... which was unfortunately more than he could bear....... all due to a mistake by a new farmhand......

It varies from state to state, and Indiana it's tax evasion, and they go after you with both barrels..... I've seen people park at the off road pump at my local station, and the Co-Op, and pump their on road, plated pickup full of red diesel, and either be stopped on the street just out of the stations lot or pull up behind them and bust them....... Even seen a couple of instances of police officer witnessing the violation, and call the excise police, and trust me..... the excise police are there before you finish pumping.........

The pleasure of owning and running a diesel costs more.... all the way around... routine maintenance, replacement parts, and at times fuel......

^ Correct. Color alone doesn't have much bearing.
But he's asking specifically if anyone has been fined for running waste motor oil.

I've not heard of anyone being fined for WMO/WVO. I think it's more of a gray are, and normally doesn't get pushed. Red in a plated vehicle is a very black and white issue......

That being said, I wouldn't use red to mix with WMO..........
