Yeah but hes saying the harmonic balancer can't be used and you can't use a new flywheel. I pulled an auto idi and the balancer looked different and I completely forgot to look closely at it and take a pic. Are these engines not internally balanced?

Is this true? Is the balancer different from an auto to a manual?

Not different from an auto to a manual, but different from a 7.3 IDIT to a 7.3 N/A. I did lots of research on the 7.3 IDIT engine. It was only made for about a year, and then as an option engine.

Trust me, I know, I have experience.:D I have had an E4OD out, changed the fiexplate, and put it back in, only to take back it out, and put the old flex plate back in. The engine shook bad enough to shake the whole truck.

BTS, Brian's Truck Shop is the only one that I know of that has the correct flex plates for the 7.3 IDIT to the E4OD. He has them made.
I learned about him on Oil Burners, I think, but I don't remember who to give credit to.

Here is the flexplate and space i removed yesterday from the IDI Turbo parts truck. Are all flex plates missing that bolt hole? Is it missing on the crank too? I didnt even notice when i pulled it off. So do i need a special flywheel and pressure plate when i upgrade my stock clutch since my engine is a factory turbo too?

If you are converting from Auto to Std trams yes new bolts for flywheel new TURBO specific flywheel and clutch assembly as the balance is quite different from the non turbo engine.

Please make sure your engine is indeed a turbo if you can by posting seriol no. It is just left as looking from flywheel side of block or on drivers side of IP tower stamped in the block.

Once confirmed factory turbo then parts decisions can become reality

The engine i removed from my 94 parts truck is a factory turbo by vin and appeareance, which i know isnt the best, ill get the serial number from the engine to make sure

The engine it's replacing that's going in my truck is a 93 factory turbo by vin. I'll grab serial number. Not meaning ot hijack this thread this is just a lot of good info i had no idea about.

Shawn, look the second picture in your post. At about 4 o'clock, you will see a weight about 5" long, welded to the flex plate. This flex plate came off of a 7.3 IDIT (turbo) engine. The non-turbo flex plate does not have that weight.

Hope this helps, JL

'93 IDIT and '94 IDIT use the same flex plate or flywheel.
