Thanks everyone for the input. Does anyone know off hand where to find good information on how to advance the timing on my pump to help remove the haze thats coming out my exhaust?

I guess what i'm asking is, if you guys think this is a worthwhile investment, that should help remedy the signs and symptoms my truck is displaying. I have no experience working on this truck so I could use all the professional or first hand experience opinions I can get. Thanks again

I would just buy it new from Mel for $100 more or so you can get one with a warranty and your core pump helps him out its a win win.
Just my opinion.

Ok... Didnt find the article but did find a reason as to why it can effect oil consumption.

Apparently, when the air demand of the engine is high, the valve is supposed to close keeping the engine from sucking oil at higher rpm/load. If the diaphragm is ruptured or stuck/sticking, the valve will not close as it should and cause the engine to draw oil. It would do the same if the intake was restricted due to dirty air filter, etc.. the valve should close preventing the engine from drawing in oil. That would explain why guys are claiming a dramatic oil use decrease over longer trips (highway), or pulling loads, etc.. when the valve is cleaned or replaced.

Interesting. That makes sense as I notice higher oil consumption the couple times I've had my IDI at 3000+ RPM for hours. Didn't sweat it, just attribute it to an engine with a few miles. Thought if the CDR is intended to be closed at sustained high RPM and load, how is the crankcase to be ventilated? Through the dipstick tube or whichever seal is weakest? There is only one crankcase vent on these engines.

For what it's worth I had been considered replacing my CDR for some time as it weeps oil through the crimp. After this thread I figured why not and got a new CDR and seal and installed. Not sure it'll make any difference, mine doesn't burn a huge amount of oil, but maybe my valve cover will be rusty instead of oily. :dunno I have no records of oil consumption and have been primarily driving my 460 truck for a month, so I probably won't bother commenting on anything so subjective. I'll make an effort to trakc oil consumption going forward and if it appears to decrease appreciably I'll swap the old CDR back on for a month or two and keep records. Probably not worth much as my truck does leak and weep a bit of oil here and there.

Also considering an intercooler at some point. When that happens I'll probably do some sort of baffled catch can to RDT.

Not to kick you while you are down, but keep a eye on those BF Bad Riches... Had a issue last year with one causing $3400+ in damages to my brothers truck. Naturally they deny a problem.

I'd sooner dig a bunch of wilderness at's out of the junkyard (and i've had a chance) to run vs the other crap
