I was thinking of getting a sprayed in bedliner in my truck and now I got a few questions about them to those who have them. A friend of mine who sprays on Rhino Linings told me not to waste my money on any of them. He said if you don't haul anything or just very light stuff it is OK but if you really are working the bed of the truck all they do is chip and scratch and what not. So my question is are they really worth the couple of hundred of dollars you spend on them? Or are you just better off going with a plastic drop in liner with a rubber mat so all of you stuff don't slide all the time?
Thanks in advance.

in my opinion the drop ins are good for one thing..... rust

they viberate on the paint and effectively remove it down to bare metal then the plastic traps water.... bare metal + water = rust

if you don't believe me go to a used car lot and find a truck with a drop in and lift it up and take a peek i have seen trucks that are 5 years old that are allready seriously pitted due to drop ins

if you don't want a sprayed in liner just go with a rubber mat

just my take on things

I agree, I have a drop in and it has rusted out bed under it. I am going to get mine sprayed soon. Most if not all of the spray in bedliners have a life time warrenty that they will fix any chips that you my get. A buddy of mine got his truck done and he said it got rid of a lot a road noise and seemed to stiffen the truck up some. Don't waste any money on a drop in. See ya.

spray in is the only way to go. I throw all kinds of stuff in my bed and haven't had any chips . I even turned over a can of gas in the bed it didn't hurt a thing but my wallet I loss $10.00 in lawnmower gas  but I just hosed the bed out and it was all good :D

One of the body shops over in Concordia does spray in liners. A buddy of mine quizzed him good. He said the only repair he's ever done, was when some jerk managed to get a forklift fork to catch on it. It not only pulled up the liner material, but paint and primer, too. Anyone who tells you they chip, or don't bond well, isn't prepping the box properly.

I would suggest going with a brand name liner, though. Like anything else, there will be off brands, that are usually lesser quality.

we had one truck with a spray in and it was a PITA when it came to having dirt and mulch in the back it was hard to clean out and stuff got stuck in the courners and we have had much better luck with duraliner plastic liners

I had one truck where they(RHINO) sprayed it in 1/4 in. thick. It stuck like glue. No problems with that one.
Had another truck with a cheap spray in liner. It was thin and the bed was not prepped well at all. It was full of chips and rips. (bought it used) I peeled the liner out by hand!!!!!!!!
I think one of the keys to a good spray in liner is the prep. You have to really scuff the paint rough. Something like 60 grit I have been told. The urethane does not stick well to smooth paint.

I have a drop in Penda. Works great for me, but if I were to go with a spray in it would either be Line-x or Rhino. mocetane is right, however. et a good reputable applicator because prep is the key from what I have read and the folks that I have talked to that have them.

I have had a rhino before and loved it - Got it after seeing what my brother in laws looked like - I never had a problem with it in the bed they sprayed it on pretty thick and I abused the heck out of it. Had them spray the lowers on the entire truck now on this they sprayed it on thin and smooth to look like paint, that had to be replaced about 6 months later - then on the reapply they sprayed it on thick and never a problem after that.

Now last truck had the drop in plastic POS - it rubbed a few spots on the bed and trapped water under it - not good.

The current truck has a linex from the previous owner and it's OK - bad prep job on the bed rails - pealing. Now they did not have the tailgate done because they were full time RV's with a 5er tail gate so they stored the tail gate and never got it lined so then along I come so I get it Rhino'd and loved that.

One of the differences that I notice about Rhino vs Linex is what ever you set on a linex coating will slide all over the bed just like a plastic liner but you can sit a cardboard box on a rhino'd bed and drive like a mad man and it will stay right where you put it - not so with the Linex. Any future linings I get sprayed will be Rhino or nothing at all - I like the fact that stuff does not slide on the rhino bad thing about that is let's say you got something that is heavy and you want to slide it across the lining as you load it in the bed - with the rhino it's not going to happen you have to place it in the bed but it's not going shift during the ride home so it's a give take thing.

My rhino never did fade like some that I seen but I had a tonnoue cover on the bed so it was protected from the sun. I know I have seen some that have gone sort of chaulky looking after a few years but I know that when I got mine done they suggested spraying this stuff on there about once a year to combat that - again I skipped it because mine was under a cover for the most part. I know that my linex is sort of light on this truck but it was open to the sun before I got my hands on her.

I've got 4 years on my LineX and still looks good. I have to admit it is tough to clean out after hauling loose dirt. I just go to the local car wash and blast it out. I had a plastic liner in my old truck and never again. It rusted the bed and everything just slid around.
