Did a mileage check on the superduty yesterday. Normal driving at 60mph on the freeway got me 16.6mpg. Pretty pumped about that. Speedo has been in-op since for the last 6 months and finally got it fixed.;Sweet

Got home from school today, figured what the hell, Im gonna start er up. 12' out, with 30 mph winds. She was preeety rough on startup, and took a few minutes to clear up. Wedged the old grille badge in the throttle linkage to set her at high idle, and let her run for a little bit. Moved it, revved her up, and called her a day. Damn, I need to get some insuranance soon!

Why?

The fluid I dumped in the filter was like 20*... Truck surged, almost stalled, and popped for a couple mins. Held it at like 2000rpm for about 30 sec and it cleared up. Hopefully it starts Ok tomorrow.
Might have just been air too though.
I had a bunch of black crap come out of the filter. Not sure if its from the little bit of WMO I have burned or if my tank is just dirty.

Ordered an amp for it Monday night, and am going to look at a bass tube Saturday.

Ah, gotcha.
Usually if you have the engine up to temp first, it'll do fine.
But it was probably air.
Can always heat up the atf a bit also.

Sounds like air to me too. And the black stuff could be some biological crap. I always get some Bio-Cide to put in, it clears things up nicely. I used to use it a lot when delivering fuel to houses when the fuel tank is outside and gets some sun through the day. The tank heats up and then the fuel is cold so condensation forms. That creates that black gooey stuff.

Today I checked out the fuel lines on the truck. Found where the steel line crosses over was flaky and seeping fuel out. So for the moment I bypassed all that with rubber line. Tomorrow I have some more plumbing to do.

Measured....re-measured, then did some more measuring, then looked at the back end of the SC and RC and compared and calculated where a SC would end up on a RC frame and if there would be clearance over the fuel tank sending unit or not...

Sooooo darn close by measuring that a slight whalllop with a Small 6-8 lb tappometer may just provide enough clearance for the project to come to fruition.

Suppose only way to really know....remove the RC and roll the RC frame under the SC and slowly lower it down....UGH..

Soon....Sooooooon.

Drove her on the interstate for six hours, 460 miles back to good ol' Albuquerque for school (winter break is over). Never had her at 75mph for that long, and she performed magnificently. This is after I installed strainer screens on the fuel pickups (no more stalls, yay!), FINALLY cleaned the stupid Banks K&N (pos was half-crushed and barely fits the housing, I had to heat gun the rubber frame to get it to fit. I'm getting a new one this summer), changed the rear and front diff lube, lubed the steering linkages and U-joints, put in some fresh Rotella, and had two pinholes leaks in the upper radiator tank repaired.

I dunno if it's the Stanadyne Performance Formula I started running, or the air cleaner being at least SEMI clean (it was awful before) but I have WAYYYYYYYYYYY more power at high rpms now. I actually saw my boost gauge get up to 5psi. Previously, my max was 2psi.

All-in-all, a good run.

Hauled hay with the dodge.

Put on the DIY Posi-Lok. I couldn't get it working, I think I've got too many bends in the cable routing so I've gotta re route it.

Needless to say, I got stuck with a full load of bales on a flatbed trailer.

And the Ford doesn't have 4wd OR limited slip... So we couldn't use it to pull the Dodge out

So I backed up as far as I could onto some grass that didn't have snow/ice on it, although the top bit was a little bit muddy cuz it was about 40* outside...

After several tries in low range, I kept hitting 20MPH which is tops for low range and I still couldn't get enough speed on the tires to get moving.

So I put it in high range and first gear and tried again. Still not much more than 20MPH and not enough speed.

So I backed up again, put it in 2nd gear, floored it, and dropped the clutch. I absolutely maxed the engine out at 5700RPM and 50MPH reading on the speedometer, and slowly I worked my way out. I was really burning rubber by this time but I DID make it out of there LOL! About the only time Dad ever lets me do a "burnout" lol. Everyone else ran for shelter lol, it was sooo loud and I was smoking the tires really good...

Wish I had it on video, but everyone else was either running for shelter or helping guide me out of the pasture (I had to make it through several narrow gates).

I have pics of the Posi and also my burnout tracks, about 150ft of them...

Good thing I had a manual and racing clutch or else I would've burned up an automatic in no time doing that!

It's experiences like that which reassure me that spending the extra money on tires and fuel for a 4wd is well worth the price.

Today was a small day on the truck since I had to go out to the woods for some wood for the outside wood burning stove for the house.

I put the charger on the batteries since it's been a few days since the truck has run. Not only does the IP need replacing (am going to borrow one off of the 2wd until I can afford to rebuild my current one, and will be probably ordering up a Carrier pump for the truck when I get the IP transferred over. I will be honest, I did try a universal FACET pump from NAPA that was supposed to put out 5-8 pounds of pressure because I thought it would be a good enough option. Found out it only put out 2 PSI and the old mechanical did around that so no improvement, and I checked it with no restrictions before, pushing, new fuel, and into the filters on the truck. Called NAPA and will be getting my money back. Then when I have the IP in, I will be ordering the pump. Either that or allowing 14 PSI from an early 90s Chevy with 6.2 diesel into it. Still like the idea of a larger pump, and with a built in filter and the fact that if it's good enough for most of you guys and your trucks as well as truckers with their ****** units, then it's more than good for me.

Got a bunch of switched ready for various duties on the truck, everything from glow plugs to lights of sorts to what will handle the starter. Maybe a anti-theft circuit.

Oh, dropped the rear tire carrier from out back in beneath so Spare will be relocated to in bed or something. Never did like crawling under a truck in the snow to pull out a tire possibly rusted tight to the base. Plus since the rear tank is bad and I am going to be using a tank off of another truck for a while until I can afford an extra capacity tank, not having the tire there will be beneficial.

Have more plans for tomorrow. Really need to consider a build thread, but I suck with taking pictures.

Out of curiosity, does anyone have any cool ideas for running switches for extras as well as some functions becoming manually operated? I come from a family of truckers, so having put many many years of driving in myself, I have gotten used to flipping switches for all of my functions.

Found a dying wheel hub assembly on my car so my truck became the commuter for a day. On the way to work a truck pulling a flatdeck with a crew cab on it lost control of the trailer he managed to cross both westbound lanes of traffic a couple times and not hit anyone, did a wheelie after bouncing off the wire fence center guard and hitting the ditch between the east and west bound lanes and came to rest.

He was fine, the crew cab was still strapped to the trailer. There was a cube van or some other big vehicle in front of me so I didn't see how it started, but there was nothing too obvious. Maybe the truck on the trailer was a little too far back? That or a blown tire would be my guess, since his right rear truck tire was flat when I looked at the situation as I drove by. He wasn't driving like a dummy or anything.

It could have very easily been a pileup with me somewhere in the middle of it.

**** wouldn't start this morning. 0*f, block Heater cord is broke so it wasn't plugged in. Killed my batteries. Need to do a voltage test when I get it running, alternator is suspect too.
