Hi, I'm new here, my name is Steven Campbell, been on the Ford-Trucks forum for some time, been seeing lots of info here and decided to join as well and perhaps, get even more info.
Got a 1985 F350 4dr with '90 7.3 with a C6
Having issues with the IP it seems, the original IP died on Friday the 13th a while back, a friend swapped the IP from the 6.9 over and it ran great for awhile. Now it is hard starting (I think some of my plugs are toast) and does not start when the engine is hot.
Although I can't afford it right now, I think I need a new IP and injectors, been looking at getting some from IDIPerformance.com although their basic pump recommends a turbo or intercooler, either I will get an intercooler and do a cold air intake, or something unless its not really needed. Plan to eventually get a pyrometer to run on the safe side.
Will be selling parts off the donor truck to raise the money for the new IP and injectors such as the old Turbo, like new glow plug controller (I have manual plugs) on my truck, and other stuff as I want to get my truck on the road asap and waiting on paychecks to afford the new IP and injectors will take too long.
Once the truck is back running right again, I will finish the conversion to running SVO, electric, coolant, and exhaust heaters and exchangers, double 3 way fuel valves for switching between SVO and Diesel, one planned right at the line to the IP and the other on a timer on the return line and I plan about a 110 gallon semi truck SVO tank.
Going to change out the regular bed with factory popup 5th wheel assembly for the donor trucks tool box and ladder rack system.
Through my job cleaning grease traps, I collect WVO as part of the business and have built a processing plant with centrifuge. Once I process enough oil for the work trucks, I get what I need for free but until I get my truck back on the road, I am paying $30 in gas in a borrowed vehicle just to get to and from work round trip (fortunately I usually have to make 1 or 2 round trips a week) but it hurts with the part time work. I need to get my truck back on the road so I can start saving again and pay the usual bills....
Enough about my truck though,
I'm 26, soon to be 27 on Christmas. I am on my 6th year of driving school buses and a few months ago, started cleaning grease traps for my uncles business. I love mechanical engineering but don't do well in a class room setting. I do welding here and there with a 115 MIG welder, got a nice little metal lathe I need to get some time a relearn to use. I love to tinker here and there, invent, been playing the sport of paintball for almost 14 years now.
I'm a bit ADD, got a couple dozen projects rotating, but the one that I am having to try and focus on is getting my truck running and then to run it on SVO as only after that, I can save some $$$ and afford other projects and those pesky bills.
