I just bought a 95 3500HD truck. The trans starts to slip after it gets warm. I will assume the trans is done at 190k.
My question is can any 4L80E trans work for me or do i need one from a 3500HD?

I had no idea there was even a section for gasoline engine questions... LOL

If you haven't had your question answered yet, a 4L80e is the same across the board regardless of what it comes out of. Think of it as a TH400 (or c6) with an overdrive. For the most part though, a 4L80e is only going to come in the heavier duty trucks anyway. The light duty (1/2 ton) are going to have 4L60e's. Basically an electronic controlled 700r4.

From my research that is Wrong.

I need a 4L80 from a 3500HD because the rear housing AND output shaft are different for the driveline brake.

And i am also being told the 95 is a one year deal with the electronics

Why not rebuild the one you have. You may be able to use your tailhousing on another transmission but I do not know that for a fact. The electronics should be the same in the 4L80E for any GM. Have you had diagnostics and a pressure check run on your transmission? I would recommend that before taking it out.

Right now the truck is off the road(no registration or insurance) so I have no way of bringing it to a trans shop. I do have a Snap On 2500 scanner though but dont know it that will tell me anything
