Can someone tell me if this is normal,
I turn on the key when it is cold and I can hear a relay clicking under the dash which I assume is for the glow plugs. When the WTS light goes out, the clicking comes back and causes the volt meter to jump around and the int light to flicker. The truck seems to start fine but it has not been very cold here yet.
What do you think.

Normal.

Its called after glow. Basically the glow plug controller gives the glow plugs their initial voltage for x amount of seconds, you start it up...and then the relay will cycle them on and off for up to 2 minutes to help cold engine emmisions.

If you have clicking while the WTS light is on. You prob have one or more bad glowplugs.

First start of the day should glow for 15 sec or so, Bad GP's will decrease glow times to about 5seconds usually

Ok, after the truck sat for a few days while I was out of town, when I turn on th ekey and the wts lights up, I have NO clicking sounds but whe the ligh goes out the clicking starts. Based on the replies I have seen, this is normal. How long should the clicking last after the wts light goes out.
Thanks

I'd start by check for bad glow plugs. It should have a loud CLICK when the GP's turn on and once they turn off and you start the truck it may CLICK again a couple more times within several seconds of each other. A fast repeating CLICK CLICK CLICK CLICK isn't a good sign as that is the solenoid is switching on and off when it shouldn't.

How hard is it to check glow plugs? How do I tell if my GP solenoid is going bad and how hard is it to change that
