It's a tag axle, that's the way I would set one up, stock maneuverability empty, and the extra rubber when loaded... Plus there is no reason to scrub the extra tires when empty.

there is a truck in town that has the same setup. he hauls grain with it and it is 4x4.

I guess its cool but what's the point? Carrying capacity of adding an axle doesn't increase the trucks GVW or GCWR unless Fords willing to uprate his ratings so it still could be overloaded. Looks like a super clean truck though and like the thought that went into it.

Yip. still just a 1 ton, Just a ton of extra expense in rear tires now. This is why morons should not own trucks.

You make a good point about an extra expense in tires and whatnot, but FWIW, it's not a 1 ton...he has the ad mislabeled. It's actually an F-450...note the badges and the 10-lug axles.

Also, even though it doesn't legally increase the truck's GVWR or GCWR, it should help the truck to be more stable...that's never a bad thing ;Sweet

I suppose you could register it as a farm truck to allow loading over GVWR? I think it works that way, if you have a farm
